Millions of people have been working from home for weeks because of the covid-19 pandemic, which means they may be adopting postures that are harmful to the body. Chances are that at home they have inappropriate work environments and/or furniture (chairs, tables) for these practices, which may cause more injury or physical pain than their office furniture.
One of these ailments is back pain. This ailment is one of the most common reasons people go to the doctor or miss work and one of the leading causes of disability in the world.
Now, with quarantines in effect, the situation seems to be getting worse.
Many of my patients who have chronic back pain feel more pain as a result of working at home. Even those whose backs don’t normally bother them talk about feeling stiff and sore
This may be due to multiple factors, but the obvious factor is the change in the level and type of activity we do.
“Someone who works sitting in an office usually walks to the bus stop or to the parking lot, gets up from their desk to get coffee, deliver a document or just talk to a colleague. At home, on the other hand, they don’t take these small, but important breaks from sitting,” notes him.
And the more time we spend sitting at the office, at home, or in a car, the greater the probability of suffering from back pain, warn specialists.
Here is some advice from the expert and other experts on how to optimize the work area in your home and on some activities you can do to avoid discomfort in your body.
The human body is evolved to lead an active life, not to sit for hours, so our skeleton needs movement to stay healthy.
So, contrary to what many believe, one of the best ways to deal with back pain is to keep the body moving. In fact, bed rest is not recommended to alleviate this ailment, explains the Mayo Clinic.
Our body can have the most perfect posture for eight hours, but you can still end up with some kind of pain or injury.
So I think it’s important not to overthink things: stand up and move. Our body needs movement.
If possible, walk. Walk outside your home, not just to the kitchen or bathroom. Walk before and after your normal work hours. Walk on your break.
Walking is a very good way to give small, rhythmic movements to the tissues of the spine and keep it healthy.
2. Stretch and exercise
The doctors at The Spine & Rehab Group suggest getting out of your chair and stretching every hour (for four to five minutes). You can set an alarm so you don’t forget to do it. You can also do simple exercises to keep your spine from stiffening.
Spending so much time sitting in chairs with backs makes us use our back muscles a hell of a lot less and weaken them. That has affected our posture and [increases] our chances of having back pain
Given this situation, the Doctor recommends a simple exercise routine to strengthen the back:
- Lie on your back, bend your legs and use your hands to bring your bent knees to your chest.
- Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, and move your knees bent and together to each side for 10 seconds.
- Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor and lift your hips to form a straight line from your knees to your shoulders.
- Lean on your hands and knees and slowly arch your back up, like a cat, and down.
- While seated, cross one leg over the other and rotate the trunk to the side of the leg you moved. Alternate both legs.
- Also sitting, pull your shoulders back for a few seconds, as if you were trying to bring your shoulder blades together.
Practicing yoga or pilates are also good options to develop muscle strength and flexibility in the trunk. But keep in mind that if you have back problems, you should seek medical clearance to exercise. Also, be sure to maintain a healthy weight as being overweight puts a strain on your back muscles.
3. Working while standing
It is important to “have variability” of postures while working at home. You can arrange a place where you work standing up (with the computer at an appropriate height) so that you can spend half the time sitting and half the time standing. But when you are standing, be careful not to fall into habits like putting all your weight on one of your arms.
About going to the doctor
Sometimes back pain can be due to more serious problems than just poor posture. The experts recommend seeing a doctor if, in addition to spinal discomfort, you have:
- bowel or bladder problems.
- if you have fallen or suffered any other injury
- severe pain
- sudden, severe pain
- pain that spreads down your legs
- weakness or numbness in the legs
- unexplained weight loss
4. Elevate the computer if you’re sitting
When you work sitting down, your head, shoulders, and neck are not in the most ideal position. So maybe you can use some books to elevate the laptop or computer a bit, so the screen is aligned with your eyesight.
If you work at a computer, ideally you should have an external keyboard or mouse that allows you to change the location of the screen easily. In general, make sure your home workstation is as close as possible to your normal workstation or at least ergonomically appropriate. So avoid working from the couch or kitchen table.
5. Use lumbar or lower back supports.
If you sit in a chair with a backrest, you can roll up a small towel and place it on the chair at the level of your lower back. The towel will force your lower back to stay in a good position (maintain normal curvature) and keep you from sitting on your tailbone.
6. Physical therapy
If the pain doesn’t go away after doing all these things, you may need to see a physical therapist.
Physical therapists can use a variety of treatments with heat, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and muscle relaxation techniques, this health center says.
But it is always advisable to have your doctor approve these additional treatments if the pain does not subside, and to be aware of the benefits and risks. If because of the pandemic you can’t go to an office in person, you can seek out virtual physical therapy sessions, or tutorials on exercises to relieve back pain, but always make sure you have your doctor’s approval.
Sometimes, we take medical help to improve our overall look and health. Botox treatment is very popular because of its numerous benefits. This is mainly done for facial enhancement, but there are many hidden benefits. Before moving further, let’s know what this treatment is and why opt for it.
What is a Botox treatment?
Botox is a drug to treat facial wrinkles. It is injected into our skin by a specialist. Commonly, it heals wrinkles and facial creases. It can also treat other conditions, which are discussed below.
Why should we opt for Botox treatment?
As mentioned above, Botox treatment has numerous benefits. So, it is beneficial for both males and females. If you are looking for a reliable Botox clinic, you might want to check these guys out.
This is one of the significant benefits of Botox treatment. As we grow old, our skin loses its structure. Wrinkles, fine lines, and spots appear. Botox treatment is done to cure and lessen those signs of aging. They may not go away permanently, but they will reduce for sure.
If the signs appear again, you need to take more injections.
Helps eye condition
Botox can help different eye conditions. The two popular tissues are blepharospasm and strabismus. In blepharospasm, our eyelids close rapidly. This condition is also called rapid eye blinking. Strabismus can be commonly seen in people. It is known as a crossed-eyed condition.
Due to some problem in our neuromuscular control, an abnormality is seen in our eye movement. Both conditions can be treated with Botox.
Reduces excessive sweating
Botox treatment can help people who suffer from excessive sweating. This is indeed an uncomfortable condition, and we lose a lot of body water in this. This treatment inhibits sweat glands and influences the production of sweat in our bodies.
Excessive sweating is medically called Axillary Hyperhidrosis. Patients have been seen to sweat less when this treatment is used. Hence, it was approved as an official sweat-reducing drug.
Treats overactive bladder
Botox can be used to treat patients who have overactive bladder. It can be used on adults who are over 18. But in this case, Botox is the last option. Other methods are tried first. If everything fails, this method is used.
Some patients cannot tolerate the heavy medications that need to be used for overactive bladder. In such cases, this treatment will help.
Botox treatment can also help you to overcome sex-related issues for both males and females. So, if you are having painful sex, this treatment may ease things up for you. For males, Botox treatment can help premature ejaculations.
This may also help with erectile dysfunction.
Relief from migraine
Botox treatment can also give you relief from chronic migraines. Doctors have seen that people who opted for Botox treatment suffer less from migraine attacks. Thirty-one injections are used on different parts of your body, and the effect will last from 3 to 6 months.
Next, you have to take more injections.
There is a link between heart rhythm and Botox treatment. It effectively regulates our irregular heart rhythm. Research is being done into the effectiveness of Botox treatment to prevent any abnormalities in our heartbeat pattern after we undergo any surgery.
Botox treatments have successfully reduced depression and anxiety in patients. It removes all the symptoms that are associated with mental sickness and depression. Patients who have been suffering from acute depression have benefited from Botox treatment.
Some of us suffer from cold hands. Because of poor blood circulation, blood fails to reach our hands and fingertips. As a result, we suffer from freezing hands.
Botox treatment can stimulate those blood vessels. As a result, they get relaxed and expanded, which eases the blood flow. This treatment can give us relief from our cold hands for three to four months, but the injection must be applied directly to our hands.
Heals baby cleft lips
Most babies are born with cleft lips. Surgery is required to cure this condition. Botox can be injected to hold the muscles in place. This aids in quick healing.
Most of us suffer from neck pain. Due to age or some other issues, neck pain can cause severe disturbance in our lives. Botox treatment can give you relief from neck pains, which are caused by cervical dystonia. Botox blocks the nerves that cause pain, and thus we get relief.
Everyone wants to have the perfect body. You can get that now with medical help. These are all the benefits of Botox treatment. There are almost no side-effects when you opt for this treatment. So, visit the best doctor in your area and try Botox treatment.
So lately I’ve been buying a variety of different beauty products just to see if I like them or not. From all of my experimentation I’ve found some amazing products that I’m crazy over. Whether it’s face primer or powder, I often try to find the “perfect” product to stick with. Yes, I admit often times I get bored of certain beauty products so I switch to something else, but if I find beauty items I really love I almost always continue to use them through the years.
Want to know what’s on top of my list today? I can’t promise that it won’t change tomorrow but here’s my top 5 beauty items and what I think about each one.
1. Tarte Provacateur SPF 8 Pressed Mineral Powder and Compact
From the packaging (it looks like a quilt!) to what this company stands for, I am now a big Tarte fan. At first I was skeptical of mineral powder in general, just because when I’ve tried mineral powder in the past it has been really messy and doesn’t stay on my face very well. With Tarte, however, this powder is a whole ‘nother story. Here are the ingredients of this makeup from Beauty.com.
- Vitamins A & E: antioxidants that fight free radical damage
- Mineral pigments: known for soothing and softening properties
- SPF 8: protects skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays
- Be sure to snag some Beauty.com coupons and save some money if you decide to buy this powder.
2. Cargo Bronzing Powder
Cargo cosmetics are a lovely way to add an instant glow to your complextion. I’m currently in love with their powders. They add the perfect amount of color that you can apply to the apple of your cheeks. I recently wore this over my Tarte makeup and felt like I was glowing. It instantly refreshes a look and is lovely for the fall and winter.
This is what Beauty.com says about this glowy bronzer:
“‘The best bronzer in the business,’ say our pro artist fans. Our award-winning bronzer is a global best-seller and universally known for giving gals everywhere a natural-looking golden glow.” I totally agree!
3. Urban Decay Supercurl Curling Mascara
I’m always on the hunt for a mascara that works well on my eyelashes. Another key factor for me is discovering mascara that doesn’t flake. I would consider Urban Decay as having quality mascara cosmetics that don’t flake or come off of your eyes.
I’m guessing the Urban Decay Lush Lash Mascara is another great mascara even though I personally haven’t tried it. Depending on the type of eyelashes you have, either mascara would make your eyes pop and stand out!
Plus, I just learned about this from JoeShopping.com’s product description of the mascara:
“This nourishing, thickening and lengthening mascara is infused with peptides and moisturizing panthenol that allows your lashes to grow for a longer period of time.” Yahoo!
4. Too Faced Primed and Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer
Too Faced primer is my BFF because I have oily skin, specifically in my T-zone, and I use it because it creates a flawless complexion. It goes on smoothly and makes your skin feel silky smooth, and I’m not just saying that because it sounds good either. Ha ha.
If you are a non-foundation/powder gal, this also works by itself! I like the description on drugstore.com: “This one-of a-kind makeup primer was scientifically formulated to wear under bronzers, foundation powders or alone to achieve the look of flawless skin without makeup!”
I have very sensitive skin so I’m constantly on the lookout for hypoallergenic cosmetics that don’t cause my skin to break out. That’s why all of the beauty items I am showing you are on my top 5 list. There’s one beauty item more left to discover…what do you think it is?
5. NARS Lip Gloss Orgasm
Sigh. I LOVE this lip gloss. It goes on smoothly without sticky gloss that most women don’t like. It’s basically a thicker lip gloss with more pigment. I happen to like it because it stays on my lips for a long period of time and looks great with an all natural makeup look. It’s basically a very light pink color that matches with your natural lip shade but makes them feel lovely and nourished at the same time. If you haven’t tried NARS you must!!
And…just for kicks here is a picture of me from Halloween day wearing ALL of this makeup that I just raved about so I can prove my point about how it makes your face glow and makes you feel beautiful every day.
So what do you think of all of my makeup suggestions? I think you should try at least one or two of them out.
If you can’t try out these fabulous cosmetics right now, put them on your Christmas wish list. I know I’m always finding new products to show you, but let’s face it, I always have the I wants. I definitely want to buy some more NARS lip gloss, since they come in many different colors, as well as more CARGO blush and bronzer.
If your bathroom’s décor is looking dated and is in need of a serious update, do not put it off any longer. You can update your bathroom’s look without having to completely gut it. Here is your chance to show off your existing DIY talents or develop those talents you did not know you had!
Before you start ripping the bathroom apartment apart, begin with a plan and ask yourself a few questions such as: What style do I like? What’s my budget? When can I get this done? How good are my DIY skills?
Updating paint colors, lights, and fixtures storage will go a long way to giving you the bathroom you deserve without having to cost you a fortune. The majority of these projects can be done in less than three days, and with only a few tools, you’ll be able to knock off most of the following projects in no time.
Begin with taking everything you own out of the cupboards, medicine cabinet, linen closet etc., and purge yourself of unneeded items. After the purging is done and you have the items you absolutely need, start thinking about how you want to store your essentials in your new bathroom.
Tying in your storage solutions will add to the bathroom’s décor and create a complete package. Some ideas for storage and style include storing linens, toiletries in small wicker baskets, or increasing storage with a stylish over the toilet cabinet.
Paint – A new coat of paint is the easiest way to improve the look of your new bathroom. When selecting paint opt for satin, semi-gloss and high-gloss finishes because they are designed to withstand moisture. If you want a more soothing look in your bathroom look for light blues, greens and even some shades of purple. If you want a more vibrant feel then reds, darker blues and yellow will make a bold statement. If your style is more sophisticated, then look for challenging colors such as browns and creams.
Pattern – Painting is not the only way to make statements in your bathroom’s design. Have an artistic urge and want to express yourself? Try stenciling. You can design your own pattern, search for one online, or find one at the local home improvement store.
Adding wallpaper is another example of giving your room depth. Wallpaper comes in a variety of colors and designs, and it can give your room a clean fresh look. Bathrooms can get steamy so be sure to purchase extra adhesive for the seams to prevent moisture from lifting the paper.
Another tip for a warm elegant touch is to install chair rails or wood paneling on the walls. Both of these can create visual interest on the walls, and with complementary colors, they will give the bathroom an added touch of class.
Lighting is one of the most important changes you can make in a bathroom. After all, you want people to actually see what you’re doing. Take a step back, look at your current lighting situation and address strengths and weakness. Look at the position of the lights, what kind of lights you have and the overall brightness.
Some ways to address the lighting situation is changing the current light bulbs to a bulb with a higher wattage, changing the light fixtures or a different type of light for example, pot lights. Take into consideration that brighter lights are better for in front of the mirror and less harsh lights are better for the rest of the room.
The fixtures in the bathroom should coordinate not only to your bathroom’s style but also to each other. Look at the style/finish of the shower head, faucets, soap dish, drawer, hardware and select a uniform style for all of them. Replacing all of these items with a similar look will give your bathroom a cohesive feeling and give the room an extra touch of class. Updating these items is easy: they come with handy installation instructions, and in no time, you’ll have all new fixtures!
The floors take a lot of punishment and updating them will make a big impact in your new style. Changing the floors can vary from adding new bath mats to replacing the floor all together. Three of the most common choices are tile, cork, and peel/stick vinyl tiles or vinyl floors. Whatever flooring option you chose make sure they are resistant to moisture.
Mirrors: Customize your mirror to the look that you’re going for. For a few dollars, you can add a nice decorative molding and re-frame the mirror you already have. If you have left over chair rail then use the remaining pieces as the frame for the mirror.
Vanity: The drawers take a beating from moisture and use, but fortunately, they can be refinished. If they are made from laminated wood – most of them are then you can either re-laminated them or repainted to whatever color you want. The local home improvement store can provide you with special primer – a flat, white fast drying paint that is designed to seal stains and make allow you to paint on slick surfaces. Add two coats of your paint color and it’s done.
Adding finishes touches such as changing the linens, shower curtain, bathrobes and adding artwork will put the final touches on the look you want.
These are just a few ideas to help get you started on planning your bathroom’s renovations. All of the above ideas above you can do on our own and most of the projects can be finished in a weekend. If you’re working within a tight budget then keep an eye out for sales of building materials to help stretch your budget even farther.
With so many different styles and finishes in kitchen cabinets it can be hard to decide which one is right for your kitchen. There are different makes to consider, types of wood, finish, framed or frameless doors, hidden or exposed hinges, plus countless other design features. Some of the features can easily hike up the price of your cabinets. So which one is the perfect choice for you?
Without doubt the overall appearance of your new kitchen will be dominated by your kitchen cabinetry. The exposed fronts of the cabinets are likely to take up at last one continuous wall of your kitchen and will define the character of your kitchen more than any other item. When looking to buy kitchen cabinets there are several factors to consider:
Modern or traditional
What sort of look appeals to you. Do you prefer traditional such as shaker kitchen cabinets or do you like something more contemporary such as discount cabinets coupled with brushed stainless steel appliance. Do you envisage your kitchen having the look of deep recessed doors and ornate molding, or do the sleek European style frameless cabinets appeal more.
Style of house
Some people will tell you that a traditional styled older property needs to have a traditional kitchen to boot, but this isn’t necessarily the case. Sometimes an eclectic mix of older styled cabinets or a dresser can look stunning when mixed with modern cabinetry too. On the flip side, modern properties do look better with sleek contemporary styles which don’t have to be made from wood. Modern day laminates are bang on trend and feature exotic woods, colours and textures whilst other materials such as bamboo or stainless steel can give your kitchen the real wow factor.
Kitchen cabinets come in a wide price range and if you’re looking to be spending a long time in your current property then it wouldn’t be a bad decision to choose custom cabinetry which is at the top end of cabinetry. This way you can have exactly what you want in the way of bespoke cabinets to fit whatever size and shape of kitchen that you have. However, if you are on a budget then there are plenty of other options available to you. If you buy kitchen cabinets online you will often find they are cheaper because online stores don’t have the overheads of bricks and mortar stores. You also get a great choice under one roof and it is relatively easy to conduct your own price comparison before buying ( Ready to assemble cabinets) are another way of saving money and are great if you’re a handyman. Just remember to check out the specifications of any cabinets you buy to ensure that the cabinet box is made from either solid wood or a mixture of wood and plywood. Avoid MDF at all costs, since this will warp and sag over time.
So to sum it up, decide on modern or traditional, fancy or simple, and work out a realistic budget that you can afford. Armed with these factors, you can then whittle down your choices so get the kitchen you have always dreamed of.
Whether it’s a DSLR or Point-and-Shoot, our quick guide will help you find the best digital camera
Digital cameras seem to have advanced almost overnight. A few years ago, it was all about the megapixels. But today, even a cheap cell phone comes with a 3MP or 5MP camera built in. Instead, you’ll find many camera reviews pointing out the specific features of a digital camera based simply on how you intend to use it. Features like shutter speed, camera weight, interchangeable lenses should all play a key role in determining which is the best digital camera for you.
Should I buy a DSLR or Point-and-Shoot Digital Camera?
The first thing to decide when looking for a digital camera is how you want to use it. Do you want a small, lightweight camera to stick in your purse or jacket so that you can always have it at the ready to shoot pictures of anything and everything? Or do you want a top digital camera that you can take your time with to set up shots (like an annual family picture) and produce high quality portraits suitable for framing?
Let’s start with a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex). Read just about any camera review and you’ll learn about the many advantages of owning a DSLR camera.
Superior image quality – Even with less megapixels than a standard digital camera, the quality of photos taken with a DSLR are better due to the fact that their image sensors are larger than those in a standard point-and-shoots.
Flexibility – Being able to change a lens on a DSLR just opens things up for photographers to hone in on specific types of shots (action, nature, extreme distance). Not to mention all the other available accessories (from flashes to lens filters) which further help a DSLR adapt to any situation.
Speed – In general, a DSLR digital camera is real fast to turn on, focus, and take multiple photos in succession.
Optical viewfinder – Instead of using a display screen to see what you’re shooting, a DSLR uses the traditional optical viewfinder. So basically, what you see, is what you shoot.
Control – While a DSLR comes with auto modes, the cameras are built around the manual controls, letting the photographer take full control of each photo.
Price – The biggest downside for consumers would be the price of a DSLR camera. Prices can generally fall in the $700 to several thousand dollar range, just for a basic body. On top of that, any additional lenses can run a few hundred dollars apiece.
Size – The larger size and weight of a DSLR makes it extremely tough to be a portable camera, the type you just toss in your pocket as you’re running out the door.
No Video – While some DSLR cameras do let you shoot video (even HD), don’t assume that every one does.
Intimidating – If you’re not good with gadgets or want nothing more than to just click a button, a DSLR may be a bit too intimidating for you with its complexity and intricate features.
Now, looking at standard point-and-shoot digital cameras, there’s a wide range of prices, sizes and styles. Here’s a look at the good and bad:
Standard Digital Camera Pros:
Price – Especially compared to DSLR cameras, most basic digital cameras will be much cheaper.
Size – There’s something to be said about a decent quality camera that you can just slip into your pocket. Portability and weight could play a key role in deciding the best digital camera for you.
Quiet – Not that a DSLR is super loud, but most standard digital cameras are ninja quiet, to the point that your subjects won’t even realize they’re being photographed.
Ease of Use – With robust auto modes, even the most technophobic grandparents can figure out how to use some of today’s basic digital cameras.
Standard Digital Camera Cons:
Speed – Despite recent improvements, a point-and-shoot digital camera’s shutter lag (amount of time between pressing the shutter and capturing the image) is notoriously slow, and certainly much slower than that of a DSLR camera.
Inferior Image Quality – While the megapixels have increased over the years, a standard digital camera generally has a much smaller image sensor, resulting in a lower quality image. That’s not to say they take bad pictures, just that the quality may prevent you from enlarging the images for certain professional uses.
LCD – Instead of using an optical viewfinder where what you see is what you shoot, standard point-and-shoots rely on an LCD screen, which can result in a less accurate shot.
Adaptability – When you buy a point-and-shoot, you’re pretty much stuck with what you get. There’s not much opportunity to change lenses for a wide-angle or longer zoom, or adding a custom flash, etc.
Auto – While auto controls are great for ease of use, there are times when it’d be nice to have some sort of manual control on a digital camera. Many point-and-shoots are limited in what manual controls they offer.
How do I find the best digital camera?
Once you’ve made the decision on DSLR camera versus a point-and-shoot one, it really comes down to your preference in price and quality. The best thing for you to do at this point is research. Before you even start comparing prices, you need to look at some digital camera reviews.
Where do I get the best price on a top digital camera?
Countless electronics stores sell digital cameras, from low-end point-and-shoots to high-end dslr cameras. After you’ve done your research and plowed through tons of digital camera reviews, it’s time to start shopping! With so many stores selling the same merchandise, you should compare prices on your digital camera to find a wide range of prices and online merchants selling that particular model. Some great stores to consider include: Amazon.com, Best Buy, J&R; Computer, Newegg, Office Depot, Sears, Target, Thenerds.net and even Walmart.
So you’re looking to buy a new Xbox 360. Congratulations! You won’t be disappointed with this sleek and powerful gaming system. While the Nintendo Wii tends to lean more towards the young kids and overall family-approved crowd, the Xbox360 is perfect for the avid gamer. Whether this is your first console or an upgrade from the original Microsoft Xbox, you’re sure to have a number of question before making such a big purchase.
The Xbox 360 console
To get started, you’ll need a console. If you’re worried about spending too much money, you can always look around sites like eBay to find a used Xbox 360 or keep your eyes peeled for any Xbox sales. But if you’re looking to buy a new Xbox 360, Microsoft does offer a number of different bundles. The two most popular bundles are the 4GB console and the 250GB console. While there are a few additional accessories with the 250GB Xbox, the main difference is in the hard drives. If you plan on saving a bunch of games, movies, music, photos and TV shows on your new Xbox 360, then the 250GB is certainly the one for you. If you only want to basically save your gamer information and any saved game info, then the 4GB will do just fine.
What you get in the box is a basic Microsoft Xbox 360 console, one wireless controller, built-in wifi, standard composite A/V cable and a free one-month Xbox Live Gold Membership. With five USB ports, an Ethernet port, an HDMI output and all-new optical audio out port, the new Xbox 360 console is more than “just” a video game system.
What about Xbox Kinect?
Recently Microsoft released the Kinect Sensor, which in short is the ultimate game controller. Remember in “Back to the Future II” when everyone was zipping around on hover skateboards and had flying cars? Yeah, we’re still waiting for those too. But the Xbox Kinect motion sensor is a step in the “future” direction. You basically hook the sensor up to your Xbox console, then simply jump, duck or spin your way through all sorts of Kinect games. It comes with Kinect Adventures, but Microsoft is constantly releasing new Xbox Kinect Games to keep the excitement going.
Is Xbox Live worth it?
The short answer is yes. The longer answer is also yes, just with more words. With monthly membership fees (Keep your eyes peeled particularly on Amazon.com for all sorts of Xbox Live Deals), you’ll quickly learn if Xbox Live is worth it or not. The free version of Live lets you download the latest game demos and trailers, access on-demand movies and television shows, and chat and text with your friends. The Gold version does all of that plus gives you access to stream Netflix movies, use Facebook and Twitter on your TV, and most importantly, play games online with your friends. With Microsoft Xbox Live, there’s really no need to ever get off the couch. Well, not until that bag of Cheetos is empty at least. New Xbox 360 consoles include a one-month free trial of the Gold Membership, so definitely take advantage to see if its something you’d really use or not.
Xbox 360 Games
With literally thousands of new Xbox 360 games to choose from, you’re sure to find something right up your alley, no matter what your taste. There’s everything from puzzle games to sports games to action & adve nture types. Not to mention an ever-growing library of Xbox Kinect games. Plus, with Xbox Live, you can download demos to many new and upcoming games, as well as purchase full versions of any games (thus saving you time and gas money!).
Where can I buy a Microsoft Xbox?
Most toy and electronic stores (i.e. Toys R Us or BestBuy.com) will sell a new Xbox 360 bundle, as well as all necessary accessories and games. When popular Xbox360 games are released, there’s generally some sort of coupon, deal or rebate tied in. So be sure to look for online coupons for retailers that are selling the exact new Xbox 360 you’re looking for. You can also start your Xbox shopping by using JoeShopping’s price comparison tool to find the cheapest price on a Microsoft Xbox.
Need to lose weight fast? Let’s say there is a special occasion coming up next week and you’ve realized you are looking a little chubby.
Disclaimer: It is not safe to try to lose too much weight in a short period of time. Following these practical tips may help you lose a few pounds in a short period of time though. What should you do?
Many times, ridding yourself of water weight can make more of a difference than you think. Concerning water weight, you will always want to be careful and never overdue it. Losing too much of your bodies water can be very dangerous. Dehydration is never a smart way to go about this. In what ways can you lose a reasonable amount of water weight?
Drink a lot of water. What?! Yes, drink a lot of water. When you are not as hydrated as you should be, it is possible for your body to hold on to more weight as it is in a type of “survival mode”. Drinking enough water is said to send out the right signals in your body to keep it flushed out.
Eating sufficient amounts of fiber. Keeping your digestive system working properly is another key. This will help reduce the bloating look.
Note: Before approaching this week of losing weight fast, it would be smart to write out a fitness training plan for the week. Having a plan that you can follow is always better than “shooting in the dark” trying to vaguely apply some suggestions you read.
For radical results, you need to make radical changes. Your diet is the most important part of any plan to lose weight. No matter how much you exercise, if you do not have a calorie deficiency (burning more calories than you lose), your chances of losing weight are very slim (although exercise will build muscle and eventually lead to a more active metabolism, helping you burn more calories). Bottom line is: changing your diet is critical if you want to lose weight and keep it off. Here are some diet suggestions for losing weight fast:
What: Eat a lot of greens. Not only are they low in calories, but they will help out your digestive system. Replace all unhealthy snacks with fruits or vegetables if you want to lose weight quickly. Cut down on carbs, especially in the evening time and don’t be afraid to eat meat, try to make sure it is lean and your’re not eating too much though.
When: If you are serious about losing weight quickly, you are going to want to not only limit what you eat, but when you eat. A good rule of thumb is to not eat after 8pm. If you are like me, you probably get hungry later than 8pm. This is were discipline comes in and it could be a good idea to eat a healthy snack right before eight o’clock to hold you over until morning. Your metabolism isn’t working as hard while you are sleeping so eating soon beforehand is not the best idea. Some would say to eat right before you go to bed if you’re hungry so that your metabolism doesn’t slow down as much. This is sound advice too, but only eat if you are hungry and only eat healthy foods. One more diet tip: try drinking two glasses of water before each time you eat. These is a tip that I like a lot and can be helpful at reducing calories. Many times we think we are hungry but are actually just thirsty. Drinking before eating can sort out that issue and help out our digestive systems.
If you are not used to exercising, doing a full workout everyday may figuratively cripple you for the event that you need to lose weight for. Therefore, I’m not saying to go crazy with your exercise. If anything, go “crazy” with your diet. Daily exercise can be something as small as doing 5 push-ups or 10 sit-ups. The idea of it is that you are helping your heart rate and metabolism by doing that physical activity, plus it can help keep your mind focused on that goal of losing weight before next week. Building muscle will help you burn more calories, no questions asked. This doesn’t mean you have to become bulky.
Young or old, tall or short, little or big, we all need exercise.
In order to maintain our long-term health, we all need to exercise. While the length and variety of workouts may change, it is vital that we continue this right through our lives. Many people automatically assume that exercise, whether this is within the confines of a gym, private exercise classes or even in the home, is the domain of the younger generation. However, the truth is that, as we get older, exercise becomes even more important for general health, fighting against specific illnesses as well as ensuring the longevity of your joints.
The reality is that any exercise can be carried out by anybody of any age, although there are a number of specific types of exercise which are attracting the attention of so-called elderly people. As you will probably see today, many of those in retirement are fitter, have a healthier lifestyle and enjoy an all-round more relaxed life than many of their younger counterparts. So, what specific exercises are attracting the attention of the elderly?
Swimming uses by far and away the largest number of muscles in the human body when in comparison to other exercises. You use your arms, your legs, your neck, your stomach muscles and an array of other muscles, many of which you probably never knew you had. It is also worth noting that as we grow older sometimes our joints begin to creak and swimming, where the body is supported by water, is a perfect way to exercise these joints.
If somebody was to ask you what was the most popular sport in the UK you would likely to look towards football or some other similar activity. The fact is that 22% of adults and 50% of children in the UK swim on a regular basis and this equates to around 12 million people – an astounding figure by any measurement.
Pilates is very similar in some ways to Yoga and offers the ability to strengthen your “core”, stabilise your body and improve your posture. It is also an exercise which you can do anywhere at any time and has the ability to strengthen muscles in your lower back and your abdomen. Many people also find Pilates is a very soothing exercise regime which can reduce symptoms of stress.
While there is no way that you could describe Pilates as a simple exercise regime, as there are so many different moves and so many positions to take up, there are many people in the UK who practice this exercise in their 60s, 70s, 80s and even some instances in their 90s. The ability to maintain suppleness, keep your joints active and also build upon your “core” is something which has benefited an enormous amount of people not only in the UK but around the world.
The simple activity of walking just a couple of miles a day can have a massive impact upon your overall fitness and your overall health. Walking offers a fairly subtle cardiovascular workout, gives you fresh air and for many people walking can help to de-stress their life. Even if you were just able to for example walk to the newspaper shop, as opposed to going in the car, or perhaps take the dog for an extra walk per day, this can have a massive impact upon your overall health and fitness.
Did you know that we have over 50 muscles in our feet and connected to our feet? Walking is the simplest way of exercising these muscles which maintains joint movement, suppleness and general fitness. The government advises that we undertake 30 minutes of exercise per day at least five days a week and while many of us do not automatically assume walking is “an exercise” it certainly does help to keep us fit.
Biking just a few miles every day has the impact of improving your overall fitness, strengthening your “inner core” as well as giving you a cardiovascular workout. We are not talking about wild biking sessions, massive sprints or overexertion, just simple leg extension biking at your own pace. A number of those in their later years are now looking towards exercise bikes in their home as a means of exercising without going out into the often challenging weather conditions.
It is common knowledge that cycling can also assist in weight loss, improves muscle tone and builds stamina. The British Medical Association recently undertook a survey of 10,000 civil servants in the UK and found that those who cycled more than 20 miles per week saw a reduction in coronary heart disease of around 50%, compared to their non-cycling colleagues. Who would have guessed that cycling would have had such an impact upon your long-term health?
Statistics show that more and more people in retirement are now looking towards gyms and regular exercise. This is something which will continue to grow in popularity in the years ahead as the worldwide population continues to age and average life expectancy increases. When you also take into account the fight against diabetes it is imperative that those in their younger years, middle-aged and elderly people still take good care of themselves with regards to fitness, exercise and general well-being.
An exercise regime, which is applicable, your own level of fitness can help in the fight against many medical conditions.
No matter what age we should all be aware of the need to exercise on a regular basis, maintain a healthy diet and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Simple exercise techniques such as the ones we have listed above for those in their older years can and do have a massive impact upon their overall health and fitness not to mention very often assisting their mental health.
Stress is a modern day killer, stress is something which can catch up with all of us and the opportunity to control stress by exercise has been there for many years. We are not talking about major exercise regimes, we are not talking about running ourselves into the ground, but simple regular exercise can and will improve your health and potentially extend your life. When you also take into account the added threat of diabetes, and the role that exercise can play in controlling the condition, it is imperative that exercise is something we all do on a regular basis.
Going to gym is a complicated pastime, the internet has meant that within a few seconds thousands of articles can appear that each tell you different things about how to get fit, build muscle or lose weight (sometimes altogether). Fortunately, I’ve been going to the gym or doing some form of regular exercise for most of my adult life so I’ve made the mistakes for you. In this article I’ll run through some of the common myths and downright lies that are often believed by beginners.
Supplements Are the Be All and End All
One of the first things people who are starting out a new exercise regime do is go and buy all manner of supplements. From creatine to glucose mono-hydrate the options are endless and all claim to be essential to getting ‘cut’ or ‘ripped’ etc. In fairness a lot of supplements do work especially creatine and whey protein (although I’m iffy whether I’d even count that as a supplement) but many are expensive luxuries you don’t need.
Think of it like this, those statues you see from Ancient Greece and Rome those men have big biceps, defined abs and chiselled chests but they never ate any supplements did they (those statues would have been based on something – clearly some people in that period looked like that)? So in short supplements should be used to supplement only; they should not form the basis of your diet.
Going to the Gym Every Day is Healthy
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard people new to the gym boast that they went five times last week for a couple of hours at a time. Doing an exercise regime like this is really not very good for your body, why? Well your body needs to rest and recover after exercise – especially an intense weight session – because the muscle fibres will have torn slightly. It is these fibres that, once they’ve repaired themselves, come back bigger and stronger increasing muscle size and strength. If you don’t give them time to repair then you aren’t likely to see as many gains.
I’m Going to the Gym Later so I Can Eat What I Want Now
This is an easy one for people to slip up on if they’re not careful. Just because you’re now going to the gym three times a week that doesn’t mean you can gorge on unhealthy food (well if you’re serious it does).
I read somewhere once that getting fit is around 80% diet and 20% exercise although I’m not sure it’s that heavily weighted you get the idea. If you’re serious about getting into shape then you have to combine your efforts in the gym with what you’re eating out of it.
If I Don’t Feel it the Next Day I Didn’t Try Hard Enough
It isn’t uncommon to find slogans like “Push until it hurts” and such posted on gym walls up and down the country. As ‘inspiring’ as these are they are actually unhelpful and put the false notion that if we don’t hurt we haven’t worked hard enough.
I’ll start by saying that in a few cases you will probably hurt the next day; if you’re a beginner, if you’ve started a more intense regime or a new activity then a bit of muscular pain should be expected. If you’re sore after every gym session then you should look into lessening the intensity or frequency of them.
Women are often very reluctant to do anything in the gym other than the treadmill, cross trainer or crunches – despite the benefits of strength training including weight loss and body tone. For many the reason is simply that they don’t want to use any weights or other forms of strength training because they’re scared that they will develop a prominent muscular frame. However, this is a myth; generally speaking women find it hard to build muscle naturally because they have very low levels of testosterone. Testosterone is important in the muscle growth process and so women should not be scared of developing massive biceps.
