Journey into the innermost regions of The Daily Reel's "corporate" psyche as we rant, rave, and, yes, reel about online video.
I'll Have Whatever She's Having
Every once in a while, I'll hear someone break out in spontaneous laughter in what is otherwise a reasonably quiet office. It is a little shocking - kind of in the same way as when someone is singing along with their iPod in a public place. Today, Spencer is howling in the office at some video that he has discovered. I poked my head out and he's watching something on his computer with his headphones on and he's going nuts. Generally, what happens next is that this howling becomes contagious and moves from one desk to another as he passes it along to the rest of the staff — just like the sound of the dogs barking in my neighborhood.
Anyway, whenever this happens, I am immediately reminded of the scene at the deli in When Harry Met Sally when Meg Ryan is faking an extremely loud orgasm and the woman at the next table tells the waitress, "I'll have whatever she's having."
In this case, I can't wait to see what Spencer was watching. I'm sure it will be up on the site in the next 10 minutes.
TDR Managing Editor Also Now Viral Star
As someone who gets ten hours a day of pure unfiltered Alexandra Delyle, I feel sorry for you people who only have access to these eight minutes of interview, courtesy of The LAist. But beggers can't be choosers, I suppose.
In this rare video interview, Alex does a great job of explaining what we do and what we're about -- even getting in a plug for ReeledIn, our extremely exciting upcoming feature. If you're a Daily Reel loyalist, most of this is probably stuff you already knew about. But did you before have the pleasure of Alex telling you personally? Probably not.
Daily Reel's First Meet-Up a Hit
Five Hours of free booze and online video creators makes the Daily Reel staff a little rowdy. Here we stand, mere hours after we went to bed, still rockin on the Internets.
If you couldn't make it to the TDR meet-up at Barney’s Beanery last night (maybe you had cooler things to do or don’t live in Los Angeles) here's a little of what you missed. Delyle played pool like a rock star. Spencer held his own at the tables and looked devilishly handsome while doing it. Liz drank like the life of her liver depended on it. Michelle worked the crowd but had to leave, while in her prime, to finish editing the podcast. And I, well, I didn’t eat dinner, so my inner social butterfly was in full form.
Representing the Web Nation were some amazing folks from: Stage9, Yahoo, Revver, WB Music, UTA, Operator11, Big Fantastic, The Post Show, JetSet, GoodNight Burbank, Nontourage, Invisible Engine, Joy Nash, Rick Rey, Psychic Bunny, Man vs. Films, The AV Club, and a few other Daily Reel fans. Last night was a really amazing night. For some, it was a way to put faces to names, while others talked trade or bullshitted with other video creators. As some one who truly loves this space, I felt like every person there really cared about the cause and wanted to come out and support. Moral of the story: we hope to keep events like these coming. And we want you all to come!

Michelle Speaks Up
Since I’ve been encouraged to come out of hiding (behind the camera), I think I’ll tell you what I’ve been doing. I started working part-time at The Daily Reel a few months ago, getting to know the site, what we are looking for, and learning how to find what’s what out there in this mess of online creativity.
I direct, light, shoot, and edit The Daily Reel Podcast, while Felicia writes, produces, and hosts. Together we strive to highlight our favorite stuff on the Daily Reel website in a fun video format. Picking what to feature is not as easy as you may think. At least once a week, I find myself asking if we can just let one video serve as the entire podcast, but then Felicia comes in as the voice of reason. If you are a regular subscriber to our show, I’m sure you’ve become familiar with the format. Twice a week, we release commentary and clips of what's "hot" in web video. But let it be known, that we have a few tricks up our sleeves. Soon to be offering an enhanced, interactive version, a stream on Apple TV, and syndication, you won’t want to miss the upcoming episodes.
As some one creating serial content, it’s exciting to see the numbers climb every week. A big “Thank you!” to every iTunes Subscriber, and every viewer that keeps the statistics up. If you have yet to see the show, you can find us here at The Daily Reel, on YouTube, Revver, iTunes, Myspace, or Blip.tv. Want to help out? Add us to your profile, and even send out a bulletin. Also, if you’d like to be featured on the Podcast, make sure to keep us in-the-know. You can email myself, or Felicia, at [email protected]. We’d love to hear your feedback, positive or negative, so send it our way!
Get ready Web Nation, there’s way more podcasting to come!
