Comedy Central Late-Night Program Will Showcase Web Videos

The cable network has announced that it has ordered six episodes of a show combining original Web programming, the first of which will air Monday at 2 a.m. The program is to include a mix of animation, live-action drama, and comedy programming from Motherload, the network's Web site. It will also feature the webisode "The Punk Group: Fat Girls on Bicycles," from AtomFilms, a short-film site that Viacom sister-company MTV Networks bought last summer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the move is part of a push at Viacom to run its content over a variety of platforms. The show is planned as a compilation of eight or nine 2- to 3-minute short clips, with a "rooster" chararacter giving commentary and structure to the show.

While shows featured include the animated "Baxter & McGuire," the celebrity-mocking "Balloon Heads" and the satire "Golden Age," Scott Roesch, vp and general manager of AtomFilms, said that the content contributed by his company also fits the sensibility and style of the show.

"We have such a vast collection, and it's a matter of finding the right pieces for the right shows at the right time," said Roesch, adding that the relationship with MTVN will provide great new opportunities for independent.
