Best Cover Song Music Videos
I think that title makes sense. Even if it doesn't, this being the internet I'm sure you are completely used to deciphering and ignoring bad grammar such as say the run on sentence. Anyway, we know there are a lot of good cover songs out there. We especially know how many bad ones there are. Can you imagine all the money used for bad covers of Imagine going to a worthwhile charity? I don't care if you are A Perfect Circle or even Willie Nelson please step away from Lennon. Anyway I'm sure you could make a list of your favorite cover songs and music videos but what about when the two are combined? So please enjoy my list of favorite cover song music videos. I wish extra enjoyment for those who are actually reading my ramblings and not simply clicking the plays. You poor souls.

Devo - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
Yes, putting Devo on this list outs me as a dork but what band was more tied to their visuals than Devo? Here they are at their great beginning before they became known mainly as the "Whip It" guys. They not only had the guts to cover such a great Rolling Stones song but also to make it into it's own things. Not trying to overshadow the original but simply doing their unique take of it. Best part is they had to get Mick Jagger's approval. He liked it so hopefully you will too. Oh yeah and do I need to mention how great Devo's music videos are? Directed by Devo's very own member, Gerald Casale. |

The Postal Service - We Will Become Silhouettes
Perhaps a video for the "cool" crowd now, heh. This is an amazing cover of the Iron & Wine song that was amazing to begin with. Directed by Napoleon Dynamite's writer/director Jared Hess and featuring the beautiful singer Jenny Lewis, need I type more? |

The Mike Flowers Pops - Wonderwall
No, we aren't related but I want to tell people we are. My favorite fact about this cover is it was actually released when the Oasis version was still in the charts and reached the top ten. I dare you to only watch this video once but I don't know why you would. Actually this one will probably be so burned into your brain you simply have to close your eyes to replay. Creepy and enjoyable. A perfect combination. |

They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
Yes, this is actually a cover song originally done by the Four Lads in the 50's. Yes, this is another outing of my geekiness. There are actually two music videos for this song since it was also used in Tiny Toons. I was having trouble deciding between the two but since I couldn't find a good version of the original online I decided on the Tiny Toons ones. Bonus is the other They Might Be Giants song Particle Man used by Tiny Toons. Two for the price of one. A better deal if the internet wasn't so free. I should write my congressman about that. |

Fiona Apple - Across The Universe
I picked this one mainly so I could break my own rule about Lennon. Yes, I like Fiona Apple's version well enough but the main thing this pick has going for it is the video is directed by PT Anderson. Paul Thomas Anderson one of the few directors with a real distinct and unique vision working in Hollywood. I just deleted many a sentence with my going on about how great he is. Let's just say I really enjoy his great films and this video, heh. That spin shot is so awesome. Ok, I'm done! |
