Summer Must List
I've been reading Entertainment Weekly since I was wee, and in honor of such a media saturated summer, I thought I'd blow them a kiss by ripping them off. So here are a couple of things besides Harry Potter to enjoy during the warm months that I'm enjoying, and if you don't like them you can (ed. note: due to the rest of this intro's wholly racist and sexist nature, the following has been removed).

Flight of the Conchords
Not since HBO surprised us with Da Ali G Show four summers ago have they given us something this current and rewatchable. The adventures of Kiwi musicians Jermaine and Bret (pron: Brit) in NYC manage to give single-camera sitcoms a post-Office fresh bent, thanks to the inspired musical numbers and inventive filmy style. Plus it's funny...like way funnier than Entourage. |

Kanye West - Stronger
This summer is sorely lacking a song. With Danger Mouse withholding a perfect single like he had dropped the past two years (Gorillaz' Feel Good Inc. in '05 and Gnarls Barkley's Crazy in '06), where's our play-into-the-ground pop trifle? Since no one is stepping up fully to the plate, I nominate citizen Kanye for his original and decidedly indie, Daft-Punk-sampled thumper, Stronger. |

Once
Speaking of stepping up to the plate, finally a movie shot on digital video really worth something. Essentially a musical, Once's small-scale and low-fi love story converts into grand hi-fi by the sweeping and truly gorgeous original songs by co-stars Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. This one will stay with you for ages, while all the whizzbangs of summer cinema escape as their credits roll. |

iPhone
I know it's been covered to death by the media, but the truly noteworthy thing is, it deserves it. Even with its shortcomings, (which I'm totally optimistic will be fixed with software updates and not hardware changes) this is easily the best phone ever produced. Plus, it's American! Plus, I have one! Check out this pretty remarkable stress and duress test. |

1-18-08/Cloverfield/Untitled J.J. Abrams Project
Ever since this trailer debuted in front of Transformers, it has represented a phenomenal breakthrough in the way films can be marketed. Not since Jurassic Park's original teaser has a trailer ignited my imagination and speculation so much. Is there anyway the movie can live up to the campaign? Ultimately, who cares; Abrams reigns as the master of torturing us with the unknown, and hype is where he thrives. |
