Elvis Lives!
Today is Elvis Day -- the annual celebration of the man and the legend, recognized on the anniversary of his "death." It's been thirty years since the King (to quote Men in Black) "went home," but his memory still endures. In my heart, at least. So please enjoy this highly subjective sampling of the man's greatest hits. Your mileage may vary from mine -- but everyone has their favorite Elvis, I feel.

Jailhouse Rock
I love the stark grey background of this set. All the better for focusing on the King's moves. |

2
Hound Dog
Originally a blues track performed by Big Mama Thornton, Elvis's swinging hips gave "Hound Dog" a erotic kick that shocked the nation. |

Burning Love
Personally, I prefer Skinny Elvis to Sequined Elvis, but "Burning Love" is definitely the pinnacle of the man's career. |

Viva Las Vegas
Man, I love a 1960s-era movie trailer, and this promotion for Viva Las Vegas has it all -- big garish writing on the screen, "groovy" narration, and a fine distillation of the movie's entire plot in 3 minutes or less. Plus, Elvis is looking good here -- and in Ann-Margaret, he's definitely met his sexy match. |

Return to Sender
From the film Girls Girls Girls! comes my secret favorite of Elvis's singles. What's interesting about this performance is Elvis's ability to sing a song about heartbreak and rejection -- but with such a sexy smile on his face.
