About one year ago, we did a bit on my late night show called “Do Your parents know what a blog is?”  It went like this... First, a young staffer would sit in the guest chair and we’d debate whether or not their parent would know the answer.  Then we'd call the unsuspecting parent to test our hypothesis. After hearing every possible guess -- a type of fish, nasty STD, classic horror film, hardcore sunscreen, etc. -- we realized that not ONE parent knew what a blog was.

In New York, anyone opening a pizza parlor slaps “world’s famous” on the marquee, so I guess amateur magicians are entitled to tout their You-Tubed card tricks as the “world’s greatest” as well. Yesterday The Daily Reel posted as our Coffee Break “The Best Card Trick in the World,” a clip by Ultradeepbase that has been viewed a truly astonishing 2,050,078 times on YouTube.

Review: Hong Kong Home Kitchen

Grade: A

What it is: A cooking program of about 8 minutes in which an avowed Hong Kong foodie named Wilson who offers instruction on making seemingly exotic dishes. The show is narrated in Cantonese with English subtitles for ingredients and with recipe amounts in English in the show notes.

So, for the past 6 months I've been working on launching a new user- generated content (UGC) site for NBC/Universal -- It's Your Show (the site will launch August 31). Our theory is, "You’re making online vids already, why not get paid?" And hell, maybe u r the next Kevin Smith? Or even Lucas?
