Jon Stewart interviews Pakistan President Musharraf

I am shocked to see Pakistan’s (dictator) President on the Daily Show. And though Stewart asked him tough questions, I think this is somewhat inappropriate.

Pervez Musharraf took over the leadership of Pakistan in a coup, he has not been properly elected. His dealings with India have been shady. His dealings with USA have been better but also shady. This episode gives him too much credibility.

Another interesting element to all this is that Musharraf has not appeared in a lengthy interview with any other news media in such length and candidness. Why The Daily Show? And he is selling a book! Is he for real?

I also think Stewart is going to get a lot of heat for this. I understand Musharraf is a human being and has something to communicate but his actions warrant serious discussions, much more than what was held on The Daily Show (as you all know I love).

Give us a break

Musharraf is one of the most legitimate and honest leaders Pakistan has ever had, and it's a shame that it took a coup for him to come to power, but that's the way the ball rolled. Democracy is not always the be all and end all of good governance and Musharraf is proving that today. If you want to talk about leaders that weren't elected, how about Manmohan Singh? They're both doing good things for their countries, so keep the whining for the special occasions, like the "we don't know who bombed us so let's blame ISI/Pakistani government."

Anyway, thanks for the clip buddy. Musharraf rocks.

Eh?

All these Musharraf fans (I have been getting some strange comments on the original post!) Amazing. Manmahon Singh is chosen by the people because the way democracy works in India is that majority party chooses the Prime Minister. But I think you knew that.

It amazes when I hear people talk about dictators, which is what he is, and say they are excused as long they are doing good things for that country. Saddam Hussein did good things when he came into power, Fidel Castro did good things when he came into power. But it doesn't help with the future of a country because they are more important than the system. There are no proper checks and balances to keep a dictators in check. So eventually you will arrive at a place when dictators will lose touch with their people. They will consolidate the power and eventually screw their people. Name a benevolent dicatator who remained so?

And as long as people like you make excuses, people like Musharraf will consolidate. This man needs to taken out by his people. A democratic system has to replace not another ruler. There are no two ways about that.

About the quotes at the end about India being bombed. What are you quoting? are you mocking yourself? India has agreed to share their evidence with the international community. That is referred to as transparency as in a transparent government.
