They're Making a Movie out of Fraggle Rock!!
Finally! Somebody decided to resurrect one of Jim Henson's greatest shows-- "Fraggle Rock"
Okay kids, there isn't much information on this yet, but Ahmet Zappa (son of Frank Zappa) recently purchased the rights to the muppet classic "Fraggle Rock." CNN reported today that Henson studios and the rocker are developing a feature length musical based on the 1980s cult TV show. Apparently, Zappa is so excited by the idea that he actually "jumped out of his seat" when the Hensons mentioned the idea.
The project is still in the the very early stages of development (they haven't even hired a screenwriter yet), but the good news is that Henson Studios plans to refurbish the old puppets and wants to do "very little" digitally. Lisa Henson, daughter of Jim Henson, says the company wants to go as far as possible independently because they are "very invested" in how the project turns out. The music should be great too, since Zappa is reportedly talking to his musician friends about the score.
The plot involves the Fraggles heading out to the human world, where I am sure hilarity will ensue. Frankly, I am beyond excited about this. Though too young to see "Fraggle Rock" when it premiered on HBO in 1983, I did catch it on Nickelodeon and friggin loved it! Holy crap I can't wait.
