The Faith Hill Phenom

Clips of the country songstress' incredulous reaction to her CMA loss are dominating YouTube like no other.

If we all agreed (and I think, post-Google-buy, many of us would) that YouTube's "Most Viewed" list is a finger on the nation's pulse, what are we to make of this?

Six of the eight coveted spots are the same exact footage -- albeit of varying lengths and qualities -- of Hill's squirm-inducing outrage (and genuine shock) at her loss to Carrie Underwood for Female Vocalist of the Year. Technorati's Popular Videos list (the most linked-to videos in the blogosphere) also lists three Hill clips in its top eight.

Presumably, Hill will get bumped when the election videos surface (there's usually a several-hour lag on YouTube's end). This unprecedented dominance is a glimmer of red-state populism before the blue-state victories steal the YouTube front page.

UPDATE: As of 6:42pm PDT, seven of the top eight videos are of Hill. Only one political video -- George Allen's Campaign Attempts to Supress Democratic Votes -- has yet to crack the Top 20...
