Robot Theatre: Royale with Cheese

Posted November 14, 2006

Two robots portray Vincent and Jules in the famous "Royale with cheese" scene from Pulp Fiction. Nothing reminds us of how useless the Hollywood system is like a good viral re-mix!

Where did this come from? Could it be a lesson from some hegemonic east coast film school on how (not) to cut a dialogue? Or maybe it's just somebody messin' around. Frankly, it doesn't matter and I'm not a "real" journalist so I'm not sure I need to find out.

What I do know is this: the comments on YouTube were pretty split between the "OMG LOL" camp and the "what a f'ing waste of my time" camp. Perhaps this points to a real divide in the movie goers in the world-- those who actually LISTEN to the dialogue and those who want to see some hot young thang traipsing around in her underpants. I mean, you know... each side has its pros and cons.

Anyway, what is really funny in this little gem of a video is that Tarantino and Avary's writing is STILL funny (12 years later), even when pushed through the robot voice and without all the flashing colors. Watch the video without sound-- not as funny. Robot voices, I'll admit, are an easy way to up the giggle factor, but I wouldn't watch all 2:20 of it if there weren't something actually funny being bantered back and forth.
