David Cross Sings "One (Bank)"
With the help of guitarist Johnny Marr from The Smiths, comedian David Cross treated the Bowery Ballroom to a rendition of corporate America's hottest viral video.
I hate U2. Bono's "buy your way to a clean conscience" campaign made me want to puke on my sneakers. Seeing their song butchered, doesn't really bother me and I think it is neither funny nor sad. I just wanted to put that out there before I get going.
Corporate America misjudges what people are going to think is an awesome team-building moment and what is just plain sad/akward/uncomforable (hence the astounding success of the Office). I think this BofA moment serves to remind us all that when corporate America is off the mark they are usually way off the mark. Still, I agree with one of the YouTube commmenters: "Even though it's excruciating, [this guy] put his neck on the line, and I take my hat off to him for that."
Now you've got the background for Mr. David Cross' lovely rendition before a Modest Mouse concert last weekend. GOD I f'ing love David Cross. He very well may be The Daily Reel staff's most favorite comic. When all the adults are MIA we drop DC references left and right. And, we're planning a group outing to one of his appearances in LA next month. So really, anything he shows up in is destined into our favorite videos list. But enough with the love-letter.
I'm just amazed he memorized the lyrics to the faux-U2 song. Mr. Cross, if you need to get out more I know some lovely TDR ladies who are more than happy to spend hilarious time with you. Seriously, call us!
