A PEEK INTO THE FUTURE
Two savvy web commentators chat about the future of internet video.
A PEEK INTO THE FUTURE
With his CinemaTech blog, technology and internet culture writer Scott Kirsner regularly reports on the nascent genre of web video, tracking the medium as it moves from an amateur-dominated arena to an outlet for studio and professionally produced work. And with his two features, Head Trauma and The Last Broadcast, filmmaker Lance Weiler has staked out an early position as the savviest feature director when it comes to internet promotion.
In addition to his Workbook Project, a sort of open-source experiment in compiling information for filmmakers on web distribution and marketing, Weiler has joined forces with Kirsner in a podcast in which he discusses his films as well as Kirsner's thoughtful e-book, The Future of Web Video.
These two guys are really thinking seriously about web video as a medium, and you should check out their conversation. Here's how Kirsner sets it up: "We talked about short-form versus long-form, amateur versus professional, fiction versus non-fiction content, changing production budgets, economic models for Internet-based video, online viewing habits, marketing, building an online fan base, and more."
