David Firth, Web-Animation Genius
For a treasure trove of online animation – specifically, weird, creepy flash animation that looks like it’s been crafted by a mental hospital escapee -- look no further than British artist David Firth.
Proprietor of fat-pie.com, the 23-year-old filmmaker lives in a strange universe of nightmarish, funny, macabre and disturbing animated characters, from odd superheroes (Burnt Face Man; Alan, an eerie head on a stick that prevents gun violence) to Panathinaikos Bear and the ever-popular Salad Fingers, a lonely wispy-voiced green-headed figure who is often in search of the perfect spoon, among other friends.
You can watch the entire "Salad Fingers" serial in the cartoon section of Firth's own website, interspersed with other surreal gems like "A Black And White Cartoon About Berries" and the must-see "A Cartoon For Valentine's Day." But for "Salad Fingers" junkies, I suggest the version with Russian subtitles that's newly available on this Russian animation website, Ideologically Distinctive Animation System.
