A story in Saturday's Los Angeles Times covered the interesting case of William Cardenas. On Aug. 11, two LAPD officers spotted Cardenas drinking beer on a Hollywood street, and when they ordered to the men to put their hands up, Cardenas made a run for it. They officers caught up to him, knocked him down, and when they attempted to handcuff him, he resisted. He then got punched six times in the face. We know this not because of an accurate police report (which claims only two punches landed), but because a clip of the arrest was posted on YouTube.

The tape itself doesn't come close to Rodney King, and there is no way to substantiate from the clip that Cardenas took a few swings at them before they attempted to cuff him. What is clear is that if/when the next truly horrific incident of police brutality gets caught on tape, most people will be watching it on the Net, and not on their nightly news show.
