London Calling: Lonelygirl15 Spinoff "KateModern" Launches in UK
The creators of "Lonelygirl15" are readying to expand their brand with "Lonelygirl15 presents... KateModern," a similarly constructed new web serial about a London university student struggling to balance her complex social life with dark forces that surround her.

"Our audience has embraced [Lonelygirl15] so emphatically, we realized that other characters could live in other locations around the world," said Miles Beckett, co-creator of the web shows, along with Greg Goodfried and Mesh Flinders.
The series, which promises to incorporate the same confessional tone and interactive potential of Lonelygirl15, will premiere this July, airing multiple episodes per week exclusively on Bebo, a social networking rival of MySpace, and offered first to Bebo users in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Episodes will later be available on http://www.LG15.com and other websites (though a YouTube presence has not been confirmed).
According to Adweek, KateModern will be supported through product placement deals, such as the recent Icebreaker's Sours Gum appearance in a recent episode of Lonelygirl15.
While KateModern could tap a fresh new international fanbase for online video and Lonelygirl-type reality-based programming, the new serial comes with little of the allure and mystery that propelled Lonelygirl's Bree to stardom.
The plot for the LG15 series was insipid and implausible. I could have cared less about the characters.
