LONELYGIRL FINDS A FRIEND
You know how weird it is when you’re watching TV and a character from one show pops up on another? Like when Murphy Brown appeared on Seinfeld?
Well, the phenomenon has a name: “fictional crossover.” If Gemmers19 represents a fictional crossover or just a simple spin-off of the Lonelygirl15 saga, there's no doubt that the sudden appearance of hot Brit videoblogger Gemma has spiked new interest in Lonelygirl Bree’s increasingly creepy story. Gemma, a “childhood friend” of Bree’s who is blogging out of concern for Bree’s safety, has only been posting since mid-October, but this week her Gemmers19 became the number one most-subscribed channel on YouTube.
Gemma lives in England, knew Bree from her childhood, and had a bad experience with the cult-like group Bree seems to be involved with. Having spotted her video blogs, Gemma is posting to alert her old friend to the dangers that await her. And if, initially, Gemma seemed as if she could have been a piece of fan fiction barging its way into the Lonelygirl15 saga, that possibility was squashed when, on October 25, just six days after Gemma’s first posting, Bree posted a reply, out of her apartment and on the run and Gemma issuing warnings about "The Order," the appearance of another character aware of the dangers that Bree is facing is helping the series develop itself into a conventionally satisfying horror yarn. Whether she'll just function as a one-teen Greek chorus to Bree's ordeal, or whether she'll become entwined in the developing Lonelygirl15 storyline remains to be seen.
