Revver, CBS Innertube, and (Surprise) YouTube Among 'Best' in Online Video
Mediapost's Steve Smith gives a nice rundown of how various online video services are developing, as well as some of the more innovative things being done by smaller YouTube rivals like ManiaTV.
Smith acknowledges that YouTube is the "800-pound gorilla of online video," but he posits that its acquisition by Google has underscored the need for online video to start finding a business model that works. He points to Revver's model as working toward the direction of how to get a better grip on the monetizing aspects of Web video technology.
Revver monetizes clips with ads no matter where or how the viral distribution brings them online and then shares revenue with the video-makers. As a result, it’s attracting some of the best vloggers (“Ask a Ninja” and “Sam Has 7 Friends”), and marketers such as Verizon Wireless, which offers V Cast clips. YouTube, are you watching?
