Russell's 'I Heart Huckabees' Tirade Sweeps YouTube
Though The Daily Reel broke this story to you last week, it was all anyone could talk about over the weekend: 2 1/2-minute outtake from the set of the 2004 film shows actress Lily Tomlin bristling at director David O. Russell's advice for a particular scene, and then Russell blowing up, cursing furiously at Tomlin, exhorting her to "act like a grown-up," sweeping papers off a desk and knocking over a lamp.
An article in the New York Times notes that Russell is known for having a temper as a director, and that he got into a fistfight with George Clooney on the set of Three Kings in 1999. Efforts were evidently made to remove the clip (as well as another of Tomlin berating Russell and here fellow actors during the shoot), but have seemingly been unsuccessful.
Reports of the video’s existence first surfaced in a 2004 article in Ther New York Times about Mr. Russell and the movie’s filming, but last Monday marked the first time that either video was made available to the public. Almost as soon as they were posted, efforts were made to quash the leak. The original versions of the two videos, named “Screaming Huckabees” and “Screaming Huckabees 2,” were soon removed from YouTube, apparently by their original poster.
The videos were reposted and removed several times over the week, but by the weekend, they appeared to be firmly entrenched in the blogosphere.
