The 300 Parody Round-Up
With every pop culture earthquake comes the aftershock of parody, and the blockbuster 300 has been no exception. Drenched as it is in political themes and gay subtext, 300 offers ample potential for satirists, who have devoted the past month finding new ways to skewer the ultraviolent Spartan romp.
Most people have focused on the aforementioned gay subtext -- the most popular being this video set to the disco classic (and cheap shot) "It's Raining Men." SNL's Peyton Manning homage focused more on the filming difficulties involved. And Black20's "PG-rated" version of the trailer cleans up the action and gives us nice happy things to think about, like candy and kittens and water slides.
The latest and greatest is internet comedy superstar LisaNova's take, which just made the Daily Reel Top 10. Resetting the film's action in modern-day Los Angeles, Lisa makes it clear that certain behavior is better-suited for ancient times -- or at least films set in that era.
The smart money is on this video's view numbers breaking six digits by the end of the week -- by which point a new film or TV show will have come along to take over the web. But thanks for the inspiration you provided, 300. It was nice while it lasted.
