Yahoo Film Contest to Highlight Young People's 'Issues'
Yahoo has agreed to provide video hosting to support the 3rd Annual "Film Your Issue" competition for filmmakers aged 16-25. The contest is seeking 30- to 60-second submissions on issues that are important to young people, which will be shown online and judged for a variety of awards.
Using Yahoo's Jumpcut Web site, filmmakers won't need any special editing or software; just a video camera and an Internet connection. Jumpcut has a variety of advanced editing tools, all of which can be used to edit and mix audio and video from any computer.
Yahoo's CEO Terry Semel will be among those picking winners, and celebrity judges John Cusack and Walter Cronkite will also weigh in on their favorites. There will also be a prize for the video selected as audience favorite.
"A generation of young, talented filmmakers is on the rise thanks to the explosion of online video," said Jason Zajac, vice president and general manager of social media for Yahoo! Search in a written statement. "Video has the power to convey messages like no other medium. Through our sponsorship with FYI, Yahoo! and Jumpcut will empower these young adults to unleash their creative and civic passion on a wide range of social issues."
