YouTube Nixes Gawker Clips
It's taken them a while, but YouTube has finally told Gawker Media that uploading clips of network TV shows and embedding them in their news stories isn't exactly kosher.
CNET News' Greg Sandoval is reporting that Gawker's YouTube account, which used the screen name "belowtheradar" -- has been shut down. Gawker Media's legion of popular blogs include the original Gawker blog, Defamer, Gizmodo, Fleshbot, Valleywag, Deadspin, and Oddjack, among others, and the company has been quite shameless about uploading clips from network shows and superimposing its company logo on them.
Considering the high legal stakes involved, we continue to be surprised that YouTube has taken such a easygoing approach to policing its content (CNET first reported the Gawker story several weeks ago). Think the laziness has something to do the company trying to pump up its market-leading Web traffic?
