Ze Frank Exits Stage Left, Where Will He Go from Here?
In just six days, loquacious and prolific web-celebrity Ze Frank will end his long-running vlog "The Show" for greener offline pastures. Here at Austin's SXSW film and interactive conference, Frank is soaking up his reigning Internet stardom like there's no tomorrow.
Ze Frank Exits Stage Left, Where Will He Go from Here?
Frank hosted a party on Saturday night along with Buzzfeed, and last night, he emceed the SXSW Web Awards (the Film/TV winner went to British site Time Trumpet.)
Close watchers of Ze Frank's site, which began on March 17, 2006 and is set to end exactly a year later (on Saturday), noted that as of a couple of days ago, Ze Frank's videos are now being hosted by Blip.tv rather than Revver. Blip will also take over Franks' "Gimme Some Candy" promotion in a couple of weeks. Is this further indication that Frank is leaving the vlogosphere?
Last January, the New York Observer ran a story detailing Frank's future plans: from the eventual demise of "The Show" to his signing with UTA to meetings with Dreamworks and an aborted CBS deal. While the article reported that Frank wouldn't exit the web, he has not announced any solid projects, either on or offline. If Ze is heading to Hollywood, it may still yet take some time to get there.
