The VH1 promos, first caught by Motionographer, herald the work of music legends Heart, Genesis, ZZ Top and Ozzy Osbourne for VH1's 2007 Rock Honors (being held this Thursday, March 24).

Designed and animated by Matt Smithson and Daniel Oeffinger, the project came about as a result of VH1 wanting to recreate Rao and Spear's famous “Battle of the Album Covers” animated short, according to Motionographer. While the clips recall "Battle of the Album Covers," they also go one step further, creating rich, multidimensional worlds inspired by each band's aesthetic. Motionographer has links to all of the clips.

If you like what you see, be sure to check out Ugly Pictures' page of videos at Curious Pictures (and their excellent work on collage-like shorts "MTV vs. CNN" and "Coffee") or go over to AtomFilms to see the animated pilot for their new project, "Chicks with Dick," which follows the adventures of Vice President Dick Cheney and his evil band of gun-toting yellow baby chickens.
