BEFORE THEY WERE NOMINEES: Mark Wahlberg
In the weeks before the Academy Awards ceremony on February 25th, The Daily Reel will be spotlighting the past work of Oscar acting nominees -- the embarrassing, the frightening, and the awe-inspiring.
Fun fact about Mark Wahlberg: the quickest way to get yourself kicked off a film set is to call him by his old nickname of "Marky Mark." Since the dissolution of the Funky Bunch, Wahlberg has dropped the nickname and, following in the footsteps of older brother (and former-New Kid on the Block) Donnie, focused on his acting. And to great success: we enjoyed his Steve McQueen-esque cool in The Italian Job, and his work in Boogie Nights is nothing short of exemplary. But in the lead-up to the Oscars, let's reflect back on a simpler time: when Cheers ruled Thursday night, Bush Sr. was our president, and a hunky Calvin Klein model was making music for the people.
