Convenient Truths Launches "Green" Video Contest
Environmentally conscious filmmakers, inspired by "An Inconvenient Truth's" Oscar win last Sunday night, now have a place to launch their careers. Treehugger and Seventh Generation's "Convenient Truths" user-generated video contest officially begins today, with a mission to find "inspired pragmatic videos to help us get out of this mess."
The video submissions will be running at the contest webpage, where web viewers will choose 20 videos from among the eligible entries. Of these finalists, celebrity judges -- including Ed Begley, Jr., Ariana Huffington, Perry Farrell, Darryl Hannah and "An Inconvenient Truth" producer Laurie David, among others -- will narrow the field to top 10 winning entries.
Prizes are a far cry from the traditional film-festival fodder like film stock or lighting packages. The Grand Prize winner gets an all expense paid eco-tour to the Alaskan wildlife refuge -- carbon offseted, of course. While second-prize receives a green-home makeover, valued at $4,100. The one video that best addresses "conscious consumerism and its relationship to global warming" gets 5,000 Canadian dollars, and a trip to Vancouver for the Sustainable Living Expo.
And if this is your cup of detoxifying green tea, be sure to spend some time watching Treehugger TV, weekly podcasts that offer citizens ways to save a little thing called the Earth.
