Liam Lynch: A 21st Century One-Man Monty Python
Musician, actor, filmmaker, producer and all-around wacky guy Liam Lynch is a web guru. Ever since February of last year, the multi-hyphenate talent (and director of Tenacious D and Sarah Silverman's recent feature films) has been creating strange and hilarious video podcasts every month on his website, liamlynch.net.
A one-man Monty Python's Flying Circus, Lynch employs the non-sequitur humor of his British forerunners, but with a new techno-heavy touch.
Episode 14 of "Lynchland," the name he gives to his homemade variety show, went up about a month ago, and it features, among other segments, Liam held captive by a giant evil skeleton called "Hellganor," a chat with Shirley Manson of Garbage (she was obsessed with Indians and admires Deborah Harry), cursing American astronaut Zip Daniels, plenty of CGI animation, cloned cats and sock puppet rockers from Lynch's MTV program, The Sifl and Olly Show. (Because of the length and high-quality of the show, be patient during a long download time.)
If he's on schedule, a new show should be up shortly. And for no cost to you, it's got to be one of the best entertainment deals on the web for original content. It's no wonder that a search for Liam Lynch on YouTube yields some 400 clips, which includes the video for his hit song "United States of Whatever," to this odd clip of a salamander with an attitude. David Lynch better watch out.
