Like the Sundance Film Festival's online shorts and the Cannes Film Festival's recently launched archive of video clips (which features such moments as Jane Fonda talking French in 1978 and Alfred Hitchcock talking suspense in 1963), the Tribeca Film Festival is joining the Web 2.0 revolution, offering trailers, shorts and even some full-length download-to-watch features.

Variety reports that starting today, movie download site Jaman will offer six films screening at the festival for free online viewing for a period of seven days. It's the first time ever that a major festival will allow web viewers to watch full-length films at the same time as they're being shown in old-fashioned theaters.

The films include a wide spectrum of offerings, in line with the eclectic mix on display at the festival: Uzbeki documentary "Between Heaven and Earth," Hungarian animation "A Guest of Life," Serbian drama "The Optimists," French crime film "The Pelican," experimental U.S. feature "Razzle Dazzle" and Argentine documentary "The Tree."

Three short films have also been created exclusively for Verizon Wireless users, according to Variety.

In addition to trailers and other promotional web spots, one lucky web-denizen might even be able to join the festival in the flesh. Jaman is offering a contest where registrants can win round-trip plane fare for two, three nights hotel in New York City (April 29 - May 1), and tickets and car service to the red-carpet world premiere of "Spider-Man" on April 30.
