Re: Looking for help on HVX-200 24p -> Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 workflow

Posted by Jesse Cowell PermaLink

Wes,

I was a Premiere Junkie for many years (ran a 50 machine lab at USC and was
a beta tester for the first version of Pro) and feel your pain as I was
devastated when they decided not to natively support he awesomeness that is the HVX200 :(

That said - you have three options that I know of (in order of cheapest to most expensive).

-Raylight(http://www.dvfilm.com/raylight/) allows you to use a wrapper to basically use your files within premiere (a proxy). The company is a good one and makes well-made stuff but I don't know how well it works with big projects or what kinds of bugs it has.

-Cineform (http://www.cineform.com/) uses an intermediary codec(which you transcode to before editing) that then works from within Premiere. They are also well known and say that there codec holds up longer than keeping it in DVC-PRO HD (which it is now) over
multiple generations.

-Matrox
Axio (http://www.matrox.com). The accelerator will allow you to edit with full analogue in and out (I think HD as well) and on the time line natively with real time effects and so on.

My advise is, if you don’t feel adventurous, I would be to stick with using Final Cut for this Project. (I switched to using AVID Xpress Pro HD just because of my cam.)

GL MAN!

-Jes
