Daily Reel Comedy: TubeMogul To The Rescue?

Josh Spector
Posted

Ok, so once you've finished creating your latest comedic masterpiece the next question is how do you get it seen by the masses? I'm a big proponent of posting your videos anywhere and everywhere, but I've also got to admit it can be a real pain in the ass to upload a video onto 20 different sites. Finally, somebody's taking steps to remedy that hassle.

Tubemogul has just launched a universal uploader which theoretically allows you to upload your video one time and it will magically appear on seven different video sites (like the Youtube, Myspace, and Revvers of the world). Plus, it also gives you one-stop shopping for tracking your views and assorted other statistics that you use to re-assure yourself of your talent.

Haven't tried the uploader yet myself, but it looks promising. If anybody out there has taken it for a spin already, let us know what you thought of it....

YouTube Ad Format: Make Money with Online Video: YouTube Rolls Out Its InVideo Service to Select Partners

Alex Delyle
Posted

Welcome to the crew, Everyone.

As most of you have heard by now, YouTube has launched its new ad format, InVideo, with its preferred partners. Here's the news straight from the horse's mouth, i.e. the official YouTube blog:

Today we're offering select partners the ability to incorporate YouTube
InVideo ads into their content. These are animated overlays that appear
on the bottom 20 percent of a video. If you're interested by what you
see there, clicking on the overlay launches a deeper interactive video
ad that we think is relevant and entertaining. (The video you were
watching is temporarily paused.) If you choose not to click on the
overlay, it will simply disappear, so that you're in full control of
your YouTube experience.

The inter-web is expectedly flooded with opinion about this announcement. Ever since YouTube was purchased for a cool $1.6 billion by Google last fall, there's been much anticipation as to how the online video giant would turn a profit while keeping its user and viewer base happy.

Elsewhere in the blogosphere, coverage of InVideo ranges from adulatory to caustically skeptical. Here at REELEDin, we're interested in what you guys -- the folks making online video -- think about this.

So I'll open up the discussion. What do you think about YouTube's new ad format? Is it something you would use? Would you like to see it more widely available, i.e. not just limited to "Partners"? Where else are you making money through a similar program?

For an example of InVideo in action, check out "Axe Murderer" by Smosh and keep an eye out for Homer Simpson.

Daily Reel Comedy: Bring On The South Carolina Parodies

Josh Spector

The video of Miss Teen South Carolina's amusing attempt to explain the importance of education is taking the Net by storm as we speak, which means one obvious thing -- the parodies are coming soon. Just like any viral web phenomenon, it won't take long for comedy video makers to try to capitalize on the viralness by creating their own spin off videos. Anybody done one yet? Anybody working on one? Feel free to post a comment with any you've seen or have made....

Daily Reel Comedy: Dogs Respond To Michael Vick

Today I've got a bit of self-promotion and a question for you Daily Reel Comedy fans. First, check out the latest video from Whip It Out Comedy which features Blerds member Nate Craig going to a dog park to find out how dogs are reacting to the Michael Vick dog fighting news.

Second, a question for those of you that make comedy videos. When you release them, do you always post them in the Comedy category on sites like Youtube? We usually do, but this time we posted it in Pets & Animals and it seems to be MUCH easier to crack the top links/top views/etc. lists in that category than it is in comedy - which in turn drive more views. I guess the question is...do you think it's always the best plan to post your comedy videos in the comedy category or are there better results to be had elsewhere?

Curious to hear what you guys think...

Tube Mogul - similar services.

I recently started using Tube Mogul to upload my videos to multiple sites. It's fantastic in that I only have to upload my video once, then Tube Mogul uploads it to all the various sites I have an account on. (Plus it seems my videos get accepted quicker too with this automation).

Tube Mogul also lets you track videos and video publishers so you can get some idea of how well your videos are doing on each site.

I've found it a useful tool but wondered if anyone knew of other similar/better services or if anyone else was using this service?

Mississippi Film Office: New Mississippi Film Incentive Program

Spencer Somers
Posted

Governor Haley Barbour has
signed Senate Bill 2997 to provide additional and improved incentives
for the film industry. The bill was unanimously passed by the MississippiLegislature
during its 122nd Session. It is effective immediately.

“Mississippi has a long
history of cooperation and support for the film industry,”
Governor Barbour said. “This legislation will help us remain
competitive in the attraction of movie production to our state,
while also creating opportunities for Mississippi filmmakers.”

Under the new legislation,
rebate incentives offered to filmmakers will increase to 20 to 30%,
depending on the production’s local spend. The bill also creates
an additional 10% rebate on out-of-state worker wages. Although
no minimum spend is required, thelegislation caps the rebate at
$5 million for each individual project.

“In addition to increasing
the percentages of the rebate, we have streamlined the process,”
said Ward Emling, director of the Mississippi Film Office. “It’s
a very simple and straightforward transaction; and it’s a
pure rebate program: the State of Mississippireturns the rebate
directly to the production at the conclusion of their production
work in Mississippi.”

Over the last several years,
Mississippi has been the location for movies including “Cookie’s
Fortune,” “My Dog Skip,” “O Brother, Where
Art Thou?” and “A Time to Kill.” Recently, motion
pictures like “Walk the Line” and “Black Snake
Moan” have filmed in the state.

“Over the years, the
film industry has been supported by every community in Mississippi.
Across the state, we recognize the role it plays in expanding tourism
opportunities, creating economic impact, and raising awareness of
our great state,” said Craig Ray, director of the Mississippi
Division of Tourism.
