New Favorite Gadget

One of the biggest hassles in producing online videos where you are dealing with talent, filmmakers, editors and producers is trying to figure out a good way to show everybody rough cuts of your work and get everybody's comments. I recently discovered Pando, which is a super-simple way to transfer large video files to a whole bunch of people via email. All you have to do is download the free Pando software, upload your video, and email away to anybody you want. Then they just have to download the software, log on, and check out the video. Highly recommended for video makers of any kind.

Shut Up And Make Out

Now seems like as good a time as any to start a new tradition here at
Daily Reel Comedy so we decided that from now on every Friday we are
going to feature a comedy music video. Music videos work really well
online and there's no shortage of good ones out there, but we'll kick
this off with one of our favorites - "Shut Up and Make Out" by New
York-based ukelele rockers The Hazzards.

Get Your Shecky On

If you're even remotely interested in doing anything related to comedy or being funny, then you should probably check out Shecky magazine. The site, run by comics Brian McKim and Traci Skene does a great job covering the comedy biz (particularly standup) and they've even now started to create some of their own videos such as this one which finds them attempting to re-create a classic John Lennon/Yoko Ono magazine cover photo.

The secret to creating a truly unique video blog is usually to have a truly unique point of view. No wonder San Francisco-based comedian Mary Van Note's videos seem to work so well. She's one of a kind and knows how to get her sense of humor across in her videos. For example, check out this video titled Mary Van Note's Guide To Dating Mary Van Note.

The Blerds crew released their latest masterpiece today - this video featuring Blerds pal Matt Braunger explaining what it's like to discover that you may be an unattractive man. It's well worth a look.

Cube News

As our Daily Reel Comedy crew continues to grow, I thought it would be a good idea to start featuring some of the work from some of our crew members. First up, is this video from Kim Waldauer's Cube News series which should ring true to many of you that are slaving away in an office cubicle somewhere right now.

If you'd like to see one of your hilarious videos featured here, then make sure you join the Daily Reel Comedy crew. Oh, and make sure that you create funny videos. And by that, I mean videos are actually funny as opposed to videos that your friends tell you are funny because they don't want to hurt your feelings. It's a fine line...

Comedy In Your 'Hood

The web may be great for gaining global attention, but it also works well when trying to get the attention of locals. That's why the recent rise of local "neighborhood" comedy blogs - many of which regularly feature videos from local performers is something worth keeping an eye on. In particular, the Apiary network - which includes New York-based The Apiary, Chicago-based The Bastion, and Los Angeles-based The Coming do a great job of covering their respective local comedy scenes. Those three sites also regularly feature new videos every Wednesday and it's a great way to get some attention for your work. Tell 'em the Daily Reel sent you...

On a side note, the Bastion recently put out a call that they are looking for some new writers for the site in case anyone in the Chicago comedy scene is looking to contribute.

Getting To Know Amy Schumer

When she's not busy working her way into the finals on Last Comic Standing, comedian Amy Schumer has found time to make some pretty funny videos which can be found on her MySpace page as well as on Black20.com. Our personal favorite of Amy's work might be this video in which she pays a visit to a Chinese New Year's festival and gives you a chance to get to know her a little better.
