One In A Wicked Pissah Million

We don't know the exact number, but it's safe to say there are millions of video blogs out there. It's also safe to say that about 99.9% of them suck. Big time. But...every once in a while you come across one that is genuinely funny and that's the case with Fitzy's Wicked Pissah Webcast.

Starring comedian Nick Stevens as Fitzy (or at least a guy that looks suspiciously similar to Nick), Fitzy's Wicked Pissah Webcast features the ultimate Boston sports fan ranting, raving, drinking and burping about all things Boston sports. He even throws in the occasional movie review and social commentary. It's a great video blog, always funny even if you're not from Boston. And if you are from Boston....well, it has to be the greatest site on the Internet.

The Next Big Thing?

The explosion of online comedy videos is relatively recent, but there's already a long line of success stories - particularly when it comes to comedy groups, who seem to be particularly appealing to the Hollywood crowd. First, the boys at Lonely Island took the Net by storm and parlayed it into Saturday Night Live gigs and upcoming movies. The next wave featured Human Giant and the Whitest Kids U Know taking their sketch acts to MTV and FUSE. So, the question now is, who will be the next comedy group to explode into the mainstream media on the heels of internet stardom?

One likely contender is the boys in Blerds (who just created a Daily Reel profile as well), a collective of Chicago comedians and a filmmaker who have taken the web by storm over the past few months. The crew has been featured on just about every video site around, collecting well over a million views for their work - much of which features a unique presentation of their standup material that acts as kind of a mashup of standup and sketch comedy.

The next step for the group is the development of some episodic online series (we hear that deals are currently in the works) as they set the table for what they hope will eventually be a transition to television and/or film projects. Here's a sample Blerds clip if you want to see what all the fuss is about...

What Sites Do You Surf?

Here's a question for you. What sites do you check out regularly when you're looking to find good comedy videos? Does anybody really just randomly troll through the Youtube comedy listings? What sites are best at tipping you off to good stuff to watch?

Check out the Recommended Reading links on Whip It Out Comedy to see a bunch of the stuff that we read regularly. Are we missing any great comedy video sites?

The Race For '08

The presidential campaigns for 2008 may be heating up, but the real race to watch is to see who is going to be able to parlay their campaign-inspired comedy into stardom. The team behind Obama Girl obviously jumped out to an early lead, but we've had our eye on a dark horse - the Dan Pederson in 2008 campaign. As you can see from this early video explaining his platform and qualifications, Dan looks like he may be a real man of the people....

Who Wants To Make A Funny Video On Saturday?

Hey "people who like to make funny videos".... I've got a couple comics (one of whom was seen on NBC this week) who are looking to shoot a pretty simple (and pretty funny) American Idol-related video this Saturday, but they need a filmmaker to capture their greatness. Anybody free/interested in spending a couple hours on Saturday shooting a video?

Behind The Scenes Comedy

There's a lot of different ways to make your mark in the world of online comedy, but it seems like the key to really standing out (besides being really freakin' funny) is to take a different approach from the kind of material that's already out there. A great example of this is the Patrice Oneal podcast, which launched a couple months ago.

Unlike most video podcasts, each episode of Patrice's show doesn't feature a sketch - it features the making of a sketch. And the behind the scenes antics of Patrice and his crew are consistently more hilarious than most regular sketches you'll ever see. Check it out....

Allow myself to introduce...myself

Hey Comedy peoples…

Welcome to the brand spankin’ new Daily Reel Comedy crew blog. This crew has been created for all of you who make funny videos – or at least try to. I’ll be your host and you can look forward to hearing from me just about every day on the latest and greatest in the world of online comedy videos as well as tricks of the trade and other assorted nonsense.

To kick things off, I guess I should tell you a little about myself. In addition to my new responsibilities as the Daily Reel’s comedy kingpin, I am the “brains” behind WhipItOutComedy.com – a site that regularly features some of the funniest videos on the web every single day (except for the days where we feel lazy).

I’m also a partner in Take The Stairs Productions, a production/management company that produces movies, TV, online series, live comedy tours, and manages comedians.

Anyway, I hope to make this crew blog a daily must-read for comedy content creators (and buyers) so in order to do that, I’d love to hear from some of you about the kinds of things you’d like to see blogged about. Feel free to leave a comment or shoot me a message to let me know what you’d like to see more or less of as we get going. Thx!
