Keep It F'n Simple, Stupid

Wanna get yourself an "easy" 300k views on Youtube?

Here's all you have to do: get yourself booked at the Edinburgh Fringe Comedy Festival, record a song that puts a profanity-laced spin on a classic REM tune, shoot a video for that song featuring a whole bunch of other funny people you meet in Edinburgh, and release. Oh yeah, it doesn't hurt to be musical comedy gurus Stuckey and Murray as well.

I Suck At Fantasy Football

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for a bit of blatant self-promotion. Whip It Out Comedy and comedian J Chris Newberg have teamed up for the first in a season-long series of Fantasy Football Songs of the Week and the first video hit the world (wide web) today. It's titled "I Suck At Fantasy Football" and will surely be relatable to many of you out there who had a rough first week of the season. Check it out...

Taking It To The Streets

As every online video creator knows, it ain't easy getting people to pay attention to your work. Sometimes, you have to go to extreme measures to get people to notice you. For example, new Daily Reel member Mark Berry recently took to the streets of Indianapolis to do a little offline promoting of his online activity. The results are this great video...

All My Exes

New York comedian Chelsea Peretti has been doing some great stuff with SuperDeluxe and her latest creation might be our favorite so far. It's the first in what we assume will be a new series of videos titled "All My Exes" in which Chelsea sits down with one of her ex-boyfriends to conduct and in-depth interview.

The Tease

Ok, here's the deal. You've come up with a "brilliant" concept for a new web series and you're getting ready to roll it out, but you want to give people a little taste of what they can expect and start to build the "buzz" for your new creation. Time to release a teaser clip. There's a lot of ways to do this, but one of our favorite recent teasers is this one which came out today for comedian Bert Kreischer's upcoming series "White Gorilla." Can't say I'm sure what it's going to be, but I can say this teaser is funny and definitely arouses some curiosity - among other things.

TubeMogul To The Rescue?

Josh Spector
Posted

Ok, so once you've finished creating your latest comedic masterpiece the next question is how do you get it seen by the masses? I'm a big proponent of posting your videos anywhere and everywhere, but I've also got to admit it can be a real pain in the ass to upload a video onto 20 different sites. Finally, somebody's taking steps to remedy that hassle.

Tubemogul has just launched a universal uploader which theoretically allows you to upload your video one time and it will magically appear on seven different video sites (like the Youtube, Myspace, and Revvers of the world). Plus, it also gives you one-stop shopping for tracking your views and assorted other statistics that you use to re-assure yourself of your talent.

Haven't tried the uploader yet myself, but it looks promising. If anybody out there has taken it for a spin already, let us know what you thought of it....

Bring On The South Carolina Parodies

Josh Spector
Posted

The video of Miss Teen South Carolina's amusing attempt to explain the importance of education is taking the Net by storm as we speak, which means one obvious thing -- the parodies are coming soon. Just like any viral web phenomenon, it won't take long for comedy video makers to try to capitalize on the viralness by creating their own spin off videos. Anybody done one yet? Anybody working on one? Feel free to post a comment with any you've seen or have made....

Dogs Respond To Michael Vick

Josh Spector
Posted

Today I've got a bit of self-promotion and a question for you Daily Reel Comedy fans. First, check out the latest video from Whip It Out Comedy which features Blerds member Nate Craig going to a dog park to find out how dogs are reacting to the Michael Vick dog fighting news.

Second, a question for those of you that make comedy videos. When you release them, do you always post them in the Comedy category on sites like Youtube? We usually do, but this time we posted it in Pets & Animals and it seems to be MUCH easier to crack the top links/top views/etc. lists in that category than it is in comedy - which in turn drive more views. I guess the question is...do you think it's always the best plan to post your comedy videos in the comedy category or are there better results to be had elsewhere?

Curious to hear what you guys think...
