Viral Video Sellouts
Tags: Online Video
Up to CrewsGeniusRocket.com
hi,
if you're interested in making videos for pay, check out GeniusRocket.com (which happens to have ads on REELEDin!)
its similar to XLNTads.com - they post "Requests for Brilliance" and the chosen video project receives payment.
has anybody tried them out yet?
internet changing video ownership models
It is interesting the way the net is changing video revenue and ownership models, the old method was you sell the rights of the content you make to the ABC or SBS (Australian tv channels funded by the tax payer), now on the net, you own the content, and give websites, tv stations, a non exclusive right to use the content.
But who pays to get the content made...maybe the viewers, as with real news on youtube?
Maybe like with hollywood movies there needs to be a risk undertaken in funding a program, bloggers may have to expect a time frame whereby they earn nothing, just to get interest in their concept, time to build up a following.
Be interesting to see if anyone gets rich with the new youtube ads.
I recently heard of a film, the secret, that hit email lists before production for publicity, then on release offered $5 downloads, they managed to sell 200,000 downloads ($1 million profit)
200,000 views on youtube is quite feasible, interesting to see what the ad click thru rate will be.
who will make the youtube video ads?
I'm interested to know who will produce youtube's new video ads? Is
this an opportunity for content creators to make ads that tie in with
their content?
What do people think, would it be selling out to produce online content, and then video ads to match?
New Crew
This is a new "Crew" for folks interested in earning money through online video... via advertisers. I'm a career marketer who moonlights as a video creator. I know how much it cost me to make a video (not much except equipment and time) and how much marketers and advertisers are spending (a fortune). So I think there's a strong opportunity in connecting hungry creators (with good content and a regular following) with brands looking to experiment in viral video. Example: Mentos (see video).
Call us sellouts if you will. But I love marketing and entertainment and believe they can co-exist in peace and harmony.
XLNTads
XLNTads is nearing its formal launch. As a disclaimer I'm on the "creator advisory board," so I'm biased here. But I think it's worth creating a profile and responding to some of the mock contests running (to gain a reel and some exposure). Eventually we'll see some decent advertisers posting contests or looking to connect with profit-oriented video creators. See post in WillVideoForFood on Xlntads.com... http://nalts.wordpress.com/2007/07/25/xlntads-nearing-launch/
