Kelly Ripa A Homophobe?
If you have somehow managed to miss the Kelly & Clay controversy raging all over your television screens, we will try to get you up to speed. Here are the sequence of events:
* Regis leaves town, Clay Aiken (American Idol runner-up & supposedly gay icon) appears as guest host along with regular host, Kelly Ripa.
* While interviewing "Dancing with the Stars" winners, Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke, Clay gets impatient with Kelly because he wants to ask his question. So he puts his hand over her mouth. Kelly does not like it and is clearly perturbed.
* The following week, Kelly continues to be perturbed about the incident when Regis is back.
* Rosie O'Donnell on "The View" accuses Kelly of being homophobic. She also indirectly outs Clay Aiken.
* Kelly calls in and says she was not being homophobic. She did not know where Clay's hand had been. And also that during the show, Clay was being very condescending.
That brings us back to the original video clip. Do you see Clay being condescending to Kelly? I do but I also see someone who was not comfortable in that role.
