Andrew Meyer, College Student, Tasered During John Kerry Forum: The Video
University of Florida student Andrew Meyer seems a bit like your typical 21-year-old: young enough to think he knows everything and brash enough to try and prove it. His efforts to get a rise out of Senator John Kerry at this campus forum, peltering the 2004 presidential candidate with questions, are thus the actions of any brash young man. Given that colleges are full of brash young men, though, the University of Florida support staff should be used to dealing with them -- which is why their actions here feel more than a little out of line.
The Gainesville Sun's Kyle Mitchell gets up close and personal with this footage, tracking with Meyer as several security officers drag him away from the microphone and towards the back of the auditorium, where they subdue him, cuff him, and taser him -- all while Meyer shouts, "What did I do?" Perhaps Meyer was being a bit melodramatic, but that's no excuse for tasering a kid in khaki shorts, while he screams "Don't taser me, bro! Don't tase me!" Everyone may be overreacting in this clip -- but not everyone had tasers.

Jim Carrey: A Call to Arms on Burma and Aung San Suu Kyi
Overearnest celebrity PSAs are certainly not new or rare things. You can't get through a commercial break these days without some marginally famous person telling you the planet is dying, or reading is FUNdamental, or hey, it's okay to be gay. All of them seem sincere, and most of them are probably worthwhile. But few are as deeply moving as this one. And it's from Jim Carrey, of all people.
Sure, it may take a second for the more cynical among us to get past Carrey's Jesus hair and his intense, "NO SERIOUSLY, GUYS, I'M BEING SERIOUS" face. But give the funnyman his due: when he's talking about Burma, about the abuses its military regime has heaped on the people, and the brutal and tragic imprisonment of Nobel Peace Prize Recipient Aung San Suu Kyi, his message is anything but amusing.
Even the most aware of us can sometimes forget just how much is going on outside of our little corner of the world. Hopefully, Aung San Suu Kyi will not have to be imprisoned for another eleven years before the world starts paying attention to her and the Burmese people.

Ted Nugent Wants Barack Obama to Suck on "Machine Guns"
Ted Nugent, at the end of this fiercely NSFW rant regarding Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and California senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, you ask if we have any questions. And the answer is yes, I do have some. When you say that you want those people to "suck on your machine guns," you're referring to your genitalia, right? Because I'm not exactly sure. Also, what is it specifically about Barack Obama that attracts you to him? The eyes? The smile? That confident manner? Or just his keen fashion sense?
I know you're busy sharing your wit and wisdom with America, but if you could get back to me on this, I'd really appreciate it. I'll be here. Waiting.

CPDRC: Behind the Music with the "'Thriller' Prison"
Since we last covered CPDRC, the Philippine prison where inmates perform "Thriller" and other eye-popping routines, public interest has skyrocketed. So we were very excited to find this video, which goes behind-the-scenes to explain the progressive but strict policies that go into running this state-of-the-art facility.
Don't go thinking this place is a candyass Shangri-La with about as much penal punch as theater camp. Jazz hands or no jazz hands, CPDRC runs a tight ship, with an absolutely-no-gangs policy, plus and an intricate system of guard teams that heads off personal politics and corruption at the pass by preventing inmate/guard familiarity. While job training and other programs keep the focus on the end goal of rehabilitation, make no mistake -- this is still hard core hard time.
But if you're just interested in the dance program, you can skip ahead to about 5:12 or so.

"Hillary 1984" Creator Interviewed BY YouTube
The Hillary 1984 ad's massive viral success has created a new standard of YouTube success: being personally interviewed by a YouTube editor about the creation of your video. Given the controversy generated by this video, it seems like the perfect opportunity for Hillary 1984's creator to step forward and answer some questions. Some fun facts learned from this conversation: ParkRidge47's real name is Phil de Vellis, he lives in Washington DC, and the reveal of his identity has cost him his job.
De Vellis's new place on the unemployment line is a shame. But his statements about anonymous protest and political commentary being a proud tradition -- not to mention his clearly demonstrated abilities with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop -- ought to help him out on the job market. After all, "Created huge maelstrom of political debate with homemade viral video" looks great on a resume.
