Prince is a Super Bowl Halftime God

I never saw a live show give a song such meaning! Prince’s performance of Purple Rain at the Superbowl was mind-blowing. During his twelve-minute set on a mondo stage shaped like his iconic symbol, the man won back some street cred with killer chord combinations and a legendary performance.

Though the entire show was an explosion of musical talent, the moment I realized Prince would not only hold his own but was in fact a musical god was when he parted his supple lips and sang that first note of Hendrix’s "All Along the Watchtower."

The rain, the power, the emotion: all a tease of the greatness to come. Prince ended his set with his own legendary hit "Purple Rain," and there couldn’t have been anything more beautiful. A purple glow emanated from his being as the harsh rain poured down upon him. The sweet melody echoed through the stadium. A silk curtain elevated to silhouette Prince as he performed his larger-than-life guitar solo. I can’t breath just *thinking* about it.

Hail to the Prince of Rock and Roll. That was arguably one of the single best performances that I have ever witnessed.

I'm still stunned from the performance and can't really express my feelings about it yet, so thanks and ditto to what you said Felicia. I think Prince's performance almost redeems America for starting the war in Iraq.

I agree. Best superbowl halftime show ever. Perfect setting of pouring rain with awesome effects to showcase his awesome talent and flare. The crowd really got into it singing and participating in the event. What a performance.

Prince blew me away

I love when he lets loose and plays that guitar. I have been listening to his music for over 25 years. I saw him perform live several years ago. I knew he was a musical genuis, but to see him perform live only confirms how great he is. A lot of people are jealous of him.

Prince was AMAZING

I was sad I wasn't able to watch the game or the commercials, but watching this video made up for it 10 fold. I am a huge Prince fan and have been (thanks to my mom) since I could walk and I've never seen him preform with quite so much passion.

I agree...Prince was better than the football game. One thing though..Bob Dylan wrote All Along the Watchtower.

Note: I'm a big Dylan fan and know he origially recored the song. It gave Hendrix credit because Prince was covering Hendrix's version of the song.

prince and his half time show

Idon't know about the rest of the world, but was in not obvious that princes' half time show was pre recorded. Especially when he walked to the front of the stage at one point, and the vocal came back on after his guitar break and he was about 20 feet from his mike !!!

You saw something that no one else saw!!! I remember one point during "Let's Go Crazy" when he was late getting back to the mike so he had to begin his singing midway through the line. I don't think there is any question that it was 100% live.
