My Chemical Romance, "Teenagers"
Take an impossibly catchy hook and paranoid-chic lyrics, add joyfully provocative images like mushroom clouds and cheerleaders in gas masks, and -- if you're lucky enough to be fronted by Gerard Way, the man who launched a thousand fanfics -- you've got yourself a hit.
But "Teenagers" is more than just a seductively jaunty anthem of adolescent alienation; it's also Way's commentary on teen gun crime. The video ends with the words "VIOLENCE IS NEVER THE ANSWER" and a message urging kids to get help if they feel like acting out. Still, there's a fine line being walked here, and when your lyrics go, "if you're troubled and hurt, what you got under your shirt will make them pay for the things that they did," you're placing a lot of faith in your fans' sense of irony.
Of course, that doesn't mean I won't be singing "Teenagers scare the living shit out of me" softly to myself all day long. Yeah!

Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry
Well, I'm perplexed. Truly, this is one of the most confounding music videos I've ever seen. The following are the three biggest reasons why:
1. Fergie looks... kinda good? What?
2. Milo Ventimiglia. Gilmore Girl (RIP) heartthrob, Heroes star... and Fergie’s video boytoy? With tattoos and a creepy ponytail to boot? What??
3. Is this really the same woman who sings "Fergalicious"? She looks like Joss Stone singing a Michelle Branch song.
And I’m not even going to touch the song itself, although there are some real gems in the lyrical department, like "I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket." What does that even mean? Is she using metaphors about impoverished children? In any case, I fear I must tip my hat to her. I am completely baffled, and thus slightly intrigued, by a Fergie video. Wow.

Linkin Park Live on SNL
I’ll admit to liking Linkin Park but there is something rather off-puting about their new single. Maybe it’s the fact that Linkin was one of the pioneers of the pop rock generation and I expect more from them, but “What I’ve Done” sounds like every other song that Linkin Park has ever done. Actually, it sounds like every song they have done, remixed, and re-released as a new album. I mean, you have to respect a band that is so bad-ass that people are willing to buy their same album twice. But, at a certain point, you’d think that Linkin --who hasn't released new material in four years-- might want to step it up a notch.

Demetri Martin Music Videos It Up
After copyrighted clips of Demetri Martin’s comedy started to fade from YouTube’s watch-list, I feared that my favorite comedian was losing traction in the online video space. But, as it turns out, when the media corps pull his funniest moments away from the eyes who adored them, Martin found another way to bring his deadpan charm to the net: music videos.
Over the past two weeks, Martin has starred in not one, but two, newly released rock music videos. The first (shown above) is an Anderson-esque video for Fountains of Wayne that was released earlier today. Though the Wayne video is not my favorite, the thought of Martin being all sad and alone makes me want to fly to New York to console him. But personally, I prefer the video that for Travis "Selfish Jean". It is simple, resourceful, and seems more in line with Martin’s beloved “sketch” comedy.
