Paul Potts Wows with "Nessun Dorma"
I'm a sucker for two things: underdogs and arias. So it goes without saying that this clip from UK talent show Britain's Got Talent tugs at my delicate little heart strings like no other.
No one underestimates the significance of a Simon Cowell smile -- the guy rarely cracks one. But when Paul Potts opens his mouth and lets loose a flawless rendition of "Nessun Dorma," Cowell can't help but grin from ear to ear. Potts is a mobile salesman by day and exudes a genuine humbleness that is rare among talent show contestants. It might be early in the game, but we're betting on him to go all the way.

Forget Potts's performance. Forget the judges' reactions.
What floored me most was the audience's reaction: they really appreciate great music. I'm a cynic, and when he said he was there to sing opera, the thought crossed my mind that, no matter how well he does, all he's gunna get is blank stares.

I have very little interest in opera, but truly enjoyed this performance. The crowd and the judges reaction added to the emotion of it, but Pott's voice alone was enough. As a fan of heavy metal, punk rock, and hardcore, I congratulate Mr. Potts on finally going after his dream. I will buy his CD when it comes out. I have no doubt it will, he'll probably have to chose between several offers regardless of whether or not he wins.

I've not seen a performance that brought me to tears until this one. I normally hate opera, but this was phenomenal.
