Rilo Kiley - "The Moneymaker"
Rilo Kiley goes viral with the adult-film-themed music video for the first single off new album Under the Blacklight. Originally, the video was hidden behind about nine minutes of porn star audition and interview footage (you can find this at http://www.themoneymake.com), but this version from Youtube is heavily edited down, getting to the music much more quickly.
Apparently, the band held auditions for the video under the guise of it actually being a porn movie, so nobody is acting in the interview footage unless they're asked to (with typical porn-style results). The song is appropriately raw and sexual, something I've never heard from this band in all the years I've been a fan, but definitely a pleasant surprise. Once it starts, we're treated to a whole lot of bedroom eyes from lead singer Jenny Lewis (yow wow!) spliced with the romantically-entangled porn stars in scenes from the movie discussed in the auditions.
Between Lewis and supercute porn star Faye Runaway, you've got all the eye candy you need, but I feel like any time you get any behind-the-scenes info on porn, the sadness of it all kind of kills your semi. I guess that's kind of the point of this, though, so I'll let it slide.
