Ann Coulter vs. Elizabeth Edwards

Matthew Ross

In a political landscape chock full of scumbags and opportunists, Ann Coutler still manages to stand out as America's most reprehensible pundit. Seriously, is there anyone out there with less class? In the latest example of her enduring ugliness, she knocks heads with Elizabeth Edwards on Chris Matthews's "Hardball."

Edwards had called into the show to ask to Coulter refrain from personal attacks, like making fun of the death of her and her husband John's son. Hey Coulter, karma's a bitch, and it's only a matter of time before it bites you in your skinny white a$$.

Hillary Clinton Believes, SOPRANOS-Style

You know how sometimes you'll think a band is really cool, and you'll be really excited about it? And then you'll be driving your dad or lame co-worker or Presidential candidate somewhere and a song by that band will come on the radio, and your dad or lame co-worker or Presidential candidate will say "Oooh, crank it up, I love this song!" And suddenly that band doesn't seem so cool anymore?

That's kind of the way this new Hillary Clinton video makes me feel about the Sopranos finale, parodies of the Sopranos finale, and online video in general. Filmed to announce the winner of Clinton's official campaign song contest, this awkward homage plays upon all the recognizable elements of David Chase's iconic ending -- without really adding anything beyond an increased terror of Hillary Clinton's improv skills. At least it doesn't actually use Clinton's new official campaign song: Celine Dion's "You and I." When trying to prove how cool you are to the voters, Senator Clinton, invoking Celine Dion is a misstep.

"Lee's Life for Lies"

Matthew Ross

Most of the Iraq War's propaganda videos we've seen -- whether they're for the war or against it -- tend to be put together without too much thought behind them. "Lee's life for Lies" is a curious exception.

The desricription of this clip by YouTube uploader "tamerghonym" claims that it's "A Message from a US soldier in Iraq Lee K. Tucker to his family. The message was found in a flash memory after his Humvee had been attacked by the Islamic Army in Iraq." The footage of Tucker, along with a recorded letter he wrote to his parents, implies that Lee was against the war. It also implies that he died when his Humvee was blown up.

The problem is that Lee is alive and well. And he almost certainly never wrote or recorded the letter. The footage of him and his fellow soldiers was either stolen or found, and then manipulated to make it seem genuine. (The other four parts can be viewed on tamerghonym's YouTube channel while it's still up.)

I Got a Crush... On Obama

Liz Miller
Posted June 14, 2007

In future years, we might look back upon Senator Obama's bid for the 2008 presidency as somewhat premature: "Why," we might ask, "didn't he wait until he'd completed at least one term of national office? WHY?" And this is why this rather charming music video may be a useful document for future generations.

Here, Obama Girl sings eloquently about why Obama found himself pressured into running, tracking the man's story from his landmark speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention to his current campaign. The starry-eyed idealism of this short captures all-too-eloquently the hope placed upon Obama's tall slim shoulders -- the question is, what will we think about it, in two years' time?
