World Leaders Gone Wild At G-8 Summit
"What happens at the G-8 summit stays at the G-8 summit" is nice in theory, but in practice it doesn't work out so well -- especially when you're expected to give regular press conferences.
On Saturday, having just finished up dinner with Vladimir Putin, French president Nicolas Sarkozy stepped up to the microphone to apologize for his lateness -- at least, we think that's what he's doing. Special French-Talking Consultant Katherine Ross did her best to translate exactly what Sarkozy was mumbling, but it appears that his dinner with Putin included more than a few cocktails. Stymied by the effort involved in making any sort of statement, Sarkozy instead gave the press the power: "What would you (collectively) prefer: should I take questions? Okay. Are there any questions?"
To be fair, there's nothing wrong with a few drinks with dinner. And Sarkozy is not a confessed alcoholic who gave up drinking for the Lord. Unlike some presidents who will remain nameless.
