MOVEON.ORG VS. RUDY VS. HILLARY
Some might want to tell Rudy Giuliani that the 2000 election for the New York Senate is over, and that Hillary Clinton won. How else are we to explain this bizarre campaign ad attacking her? After starting out by accusing Clinton of flip-flopping on her the Iraq War, the spot goes to accuse Clinton of standing "silently by when MoveOn.org ran [a] venomous ad in The New York Times" about General David Petraeus? Earth to Rudy: Hillary hasn't won the nomination yet, and she never publicly supported MoveOn's ad.
Could it have been that Rudy's real fight wasn't really with Hillary, but with MoveOn, the liberal nonprofit group which has been relentless in its criticism of the Bush Administration and the Republican party? (The day before, Giuliani went after the New York Times for giving MoveOn preferential ad placement.) If it wasn't then, it certainly is now. Today, MoveOn released another ad that directly targets Rudy, accusing him of blowing off the opportunity to contribute to the Iraq Study Group in order to stuff his pockets with public speaking fees. Its tagline: "Rudy Giuliani. A betrayal of trust."
How will Rudy -- who has never shied away from taking off the gloves for a good scrap -- respond? We have a feeling that answer will come sooner rather than later.

NYC's BRAVEST LET RUDY HAVE IT
Think the New York Fire Department loves mayor-turned-Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani? Think again. This slick, 12-minute spot -- which was produced by the International Association of Firefighters -- has one objective: that in 2008, its membership votes for anyone but Rudy. Using a combination of talking-head interviews and archival footage from 9/11, the video prevents some compelling evidence that Rudy's primary concern was never the rank-and-file heroes of the Twin Towers tragedy but the health of his own political career. It's certainly agit-prop, passionate stuff, but given the hell these men and their families have endured, it's safe to say that this isn't exactly the Democrat answer to the sordid Swift Boat campaign.

God Prepares Giuliani for Future Smiting
No, there's nothing wrong with the sound in this clip. That screeching noise is the microphones failing Rudy Giuliani during last night's Republican debate, just as he's about to make a moderate statement about abortion. I really, REALLY don't want to believe that God has an issue with Giuliani's vaguely-pro-choice position, so instead I choose to believe that God just doesn't like Rudy on general principles.
Still, I award major points to Giuliani for having a sense of humor about the wrath of God. Let's just hope he can keep that smile on his face when the floods come.

Giuliani: The Gentle Candidate
In a perfect world, we'd never bring up a candidate's personal life during a discussion of politics. We'd focus on positions and beliefs and experience instead. Last time I checked, though, the world was more than flawed. And if Ann Coulter can get away with calling John Edwards a faggot, we can take a few minutes and reflect back upon Rudy Giuliani's bizarre personal life.
To be fair, he brought it up first, with this 1993 campaign ad narrated by now-ex-wife Donna Hanover. The children Giuliani cradles here are, according to Wikipedia, now "estranged" from their father, and the Hanover-Giuliani divorce settlement was hot New York gossip for nearly two years. What's also not mentioned in this ad is that Giuliani met Hanover while still married to his first wife, childhood sweetheart Regina Peruggi. Fun fact: when Peruggi and Giuliani decided to split up, they were able to get their marriage annulled -- because they were second cousins. And apparently hadn't figured it out before then? That'll make for some awkward family reunions.
But, hey, we're all human, we all make mistakes (such as two failed marriages and several extramarital affairs). So it's fine with us if Giuliani isn't perfect. Just so long as he doesn't pretend otherwise.

Rudy Giuliani, live via YouTube
I know, Mom and Dad, that this breaks your hearts. After all, you worked so hard to raise me right- er, I mean, left. But come on! The non-binding resolution on Iraq IS a waste of time! And firefighters are awesome! And President Bush is... Okay, so me and Giuliani don't agree as much as I thought. But still, it's dangerous, having this sort of access to the views of politicians. Minds will be changing left and right!
