USC Loss is Saints Gain in New Orleans Victory
USC football fans cannot be happy. A day after the most upsetting and disappointing loss in Pete Carroll’s epoch as USC head coach, Trojan fans are reminded of what they lost, what they could have had, and what they need most – Reggie Bush.
With Reggie Bush back on the current USC squad where he would only have been a junior, we would not be in anticipation of a Rose Bowl game between evenly matched USC and Michigan, but we would be anxiously waiting to see how Reggie Bush would torch the Ohio State defense in the National Championship game weeks after winning his 2nd straight Heisman Trophy.
However, much to the chagrin of USC loyalists Reggie Bush has nothing to with the Trojans and instead of polishing his college football resume he is now showcasing his freakishly athletic talents in the big dog – the NFL.
Yesterday as a New Orleans Saint, Reggie Bush could be described by any of the following words: stimulating, untouchable, invigorating, thrilling…basically check a thesaurus for the word “electrifying” as I just did and you’ll have your full list. This guy was simply amazing while tallying a team record 4 touchdowns, 172 all purpose yards, and an immeasurable amount of style points that surely leads the league. All this against his favorite team growing up, the San Francisco 49ers.
While watching Bush seamlessly juke out defenders with his incredible footwork, catching difficult passes as a running back or receiver, and strolling into the end zone like a Pro Bowl veteran, you forget he’s not only a rookie, but a 2nd string running back behind Deuce McAllister.
Any time he touches the ball, which hopefully after the clinic he put on Sunday will be more frequently, everyone holds their breath. He evokes the same feelings in defenses, coaching staffs, and fans that Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, and a more appropriate comparison – Barry Sanders would in their respective sport.
It may be too soon to compare a 2nd string rookie with only two career touchdowns prior to Sunday to sports deities, but Bush is definitely previewing what Saints fans can pray they will see plenty of more in what will without a doubt be an NFL Hall of Fame career…and what Trojan followers can remember what they once had – the most electrifying player in sports.
