Boise State Wins 2007 Fiesta Bowl
In a manner stranger than the blue football field the Broncos play on at home, Boise State won what has been described to me as the most amazing college football game of all time, and they did it with a football play named after a gift from the French.
The play shown here is the winning two-point conversion by Boise giving the ninth ranked Broncos a 43-42 win over 7th ranked Oklahoma. The plays leading up to this moment were equally amazing and so unpredictable that my roommate had turned the TV off assuming it was over (I don't approve of this behavior).
With 1:26 remaining in the 4th, Oklahoma tied the ball game 28-28 with a touchdown and a two-point conversion.
24 second later, Marcus Walker of Oklahoma returned an interception for 77 yards to give the Sooners a 7 point lead after having been down by 8 only a minute earlier.
With 7 seconds on the board, Jerard Rabb sent Boise St. to overtime with a 35 yard touchdown pass reception.
In overtime, the Broncos took full advantage of their end-of-regulation heroics. The Broncos trailed by 7 after giving up a touchdown to start OT, but after scoring one of their own, Boise St. tailback Ian Johnson proved the old Statue of Liberty play actually works, giving the Broncos a one-point victory over the Sooners.
In addition to helping Boise St. head coach, Chris Petersen, to a 13-0 record in his inaugural season, Johnson also earned himself a cheerleader wife with the touchdown. Ecstatic over the game, Johnson proposed to his girlfriend minutes after the game's exciting conclusion.
