Tyrus Thomas Playoff Dunk
With all of the attention that Brandon R.O.Y. Roy is getting, I don't feel as though Tyrus Thomas is getting his due credit. If you ask me, there are two reasons why everyone thinks that Roy is the rookie of the year:
1) Roy's playing for one of the crappiest teams in the league, so it's easier for him to stuff the stat sheet.
2) Everyone already decided he's the rookie of the year, and once the media gets snowballing, it's hard to stop the avalanche.
But quite frankly, Thomas seems to be the better, although possibly more raw, athlete. In the limited action I've seen him in, I have to say that his athleticism is phenomenal. I've seen him sky up for blocks that a 7-footer would have trouble reaching and this alley-oop seen here, against one of my least favorite teams in the league, is nothing short of spectacular.
The fact is, Roy is a better all around player, that took advantage of his opportunity to start and play. He became the glue for the Blazers. He exceeded everyone's expectations, while missing about 24 games this year. Thomas wasn't considered because he hasn't shown enough, nor proven enough. Athleticism gets you so far, look at Travis Outlaw. If you are basing you case for Thomas on that, then Travis should have won it his rookie year.
Next time, do a bit more homework before making such a claim. Roy is the R.O.Y for a reason, because he was just better then everyone else.
Roy has a much better basketball mind. Can finish a game and puts teams away. He can't jump as high as Thomas, no, but his game is so much more multi-dimensional than Thomas'.
Even if he was on another, better, team, Roy would still be the top rookie in the league.
Not all champion teams have the best athletes, it's about teamwork.
The Blazers are a young team, and obviously in the rebuilding stage. The celtics suck, that doesnt mean anything, they were once amazing. All teams go through stages, look at the Bulls, they are finally on the way up now from their long rebuild. The cavs, the Lakers are going through a rebuild. Does that mean that Kobe is no good because he plays on the Lakers, who don't have a great record?
Just because you play on a bad team doesn't make it easier to stuff your stat sheet, if anything, it makes it harder, because you have all the weight on your shoulders.
You're a genius.
