Brown's Extreme Fall At X-Games

Liz Miller
Posted August 03, 2007

Any fall you can walk away from, right? During last night's X Games, Jake Brown completed a gnarly 720 rotation on his first jump, but at the quarterpipe he lost control, beginning a fifty-foot plummet towards the hard wood below. The landing is shattering -- literally, as his shoes went flying on impact -- and the ten minutes of motionlessness that followed during the live broadcast was apparently even more heart-stopping.

Reports have come in saying that Brown is recovering nicely, but has no memory of the fall. I certainly hope that this video doesn't do anything to jog his memory.

i agree also about the no neck brace. just as safety percautions because of a head to neck injury or even back injuries. they should have taken him off w/ a strecher...i just dont get it. also it was his shoes that flew off not his shin guards

I agree!!!. No neck brace? No back board? You let this guy, whose been out of it for nearly 10 min just walk off? I don't want these docs taking care of me...

What I don't understand is how "the best medical staff" working the event didn't put him in a neck brace and on a back board immediately? you see people in minor fender benders given more care then his poor guy who looked like Wylie Coyote doing the "air running" before he fell so hard his shoes shot off like rockets.

It appears that Brown, once airborne, attempts to "run" to safety, but upon nearing impact, something happens, and I wonder what he was thinking exactly at that moment: his legs and arms suddenly stop moving, his body straightens, and he contorts himself in mid-air to soften the blow, legs-to-back. Well done.
