When I first saw the pre-commercial break promo for this clip on SportsCenter, I thought for sure Bobby Knight had full-on whacked some poor kid.

I'm still wondering if I've seen the right clip because the only problem I see with Coach Knight's most recent, shall we say, coaching style, is America's reaction to it. Once again, Bobby brings out his no-nonsense tactics, and once again, America overreacts.

According to the YouTube user who uploaded the video, Bobby Knight "pimp slaps" the player. Kind of a misogynistic term to describe what I would consider to be a chin tap.

To be quite honest, I think this whole "slap" is a complete non-event (although apparently ESPN and every sports radio show in US would disagree with me). When Latrell Sprewell assaulted his coach, that was a big deal. When one fan tragically killed another fan at a youth hockey game, that was newsworthy. Bobby Knight touches a player's chin with his finger tips? Give me a break.

This is a classic American sports-media overreaction on a slow newsday in the sports world. Congratulations once again on making something out of nothing, ESPN.
