Colts Win Super Bowl XLI, emBEARass Chicago
The game couldn't have started much better for the Chicago Bears during Super Bowl XLI as Devin Hester did what he does best, returning his eighth kick return (after already tying the NFL record of seven.)
Fourteen seconds in, Bears up by seven. Soon after that, Bears QB, Rex Grossman, throws a touchdown after an interception thrown by Payton Manning putting the Bears up 14-7. Special teams, offense, defense; for the first quarter, the Bears were unstoppable.
For the next three quarters, the Bears were as bad as they once were good. Grossman turned the ball over so many times that I lost count (turns out it was two of each...thanks espn.com!). Some of the fumbles Rex can blame on the Miami rain, but Grossman will have a very difficult time finding even a bad excuse for why he threw some of the passes he did, in particular the fourth quarter duck he lobbed up for Kelvin Hayden to return for a 56 yard touchdown.
In case I haven't made it clear enough, the Bears didn't get it done on offense. Say what you will about the defense, but they kept the Colts to 22 if you don't count the 7 the offense let in.
I hate to be one of the many quick to jump on Grossman, but I've got to tell you, while he certainly got the job done in getting the Bears to XLI, he's not making things easy on me after this one.
