Feilhaber's Fantastic Finish Downs Mexico
Some people might say a rivalry is not a rivalry if one team wins all the time. Those people will always be right. However, there is no denying that there is an extra level of intensity, of venom, of desire when the US and Mexico hook up on the soccer pitch. It's a battle, both chippy and brutal.
Yesterday, a spectacular goal from 22-year-old Benny Feilhaber, in only his eighth appearance with the National Team, crushed Mexican hearts once again, as the United States lifted the Gold Cup as champions of CONCACAF (Confederation of North and Central American and Carribean Football). There are few things sweeter in sports than a cracking volley off a corner kick.
This latest defeat in Chicago furthers Mexico's ineptitude in the States, leaving "El Tri" winless on America soil since 2000. That's bragging rights, right there, and another feather in the Americans' cap when it comes to dominance within the region.
